Anonymousplease keep this local climbing spot intact - it's the only outdoor alternative reached conveniently by public transport
AnonymousAs the petition says, an easy access quarry, which is still used regularly for climbing. At a time when the govt are supposedly pushing increased outdoor education, we should not be filling this in.
Ian McCullochI am APPALLED to hear about Wimpey's plan!! I have been climbing at Rosyth for at least ten years, and it is a valuable leisure facility. We have so few crags in the Central Belt anyway. I intend to contact the Mountaineering Club of which I used to be a member, to make sure they are aware of this, too - as they always include Rosyth on their list for Tuesday Spring/Summer evening cragging.
nic crawshawI'm an SPA provider and manage the climbing wall at Ratho (Edinburgh International Climbing Arena). This quarry is a very important venue for training instructors and for people taking their first steps on real rock climbs.

dan baileyAs one of the few places in the Edinburgh / Fife are where rock climbing can be enjoyed outdoors and for free, the amenity value of Rosyth Quarry to thousands of local climbers is extremely high. It is particularly suitable for beginners and youth groups, and as such should be considered a natural resource to be protected rather than destroyed. People need houses, but outdoor recreation and development can coexist, given the necessary vision in local government and the community. The quarry ought to be tidied up and turned into a park for local residents, and the excellent rock climbing preserved for future generations. It's not just a hole in the ground - back filling would be an act of vandalism.
Rod DalitzI have enjoyed many happy evenings climbing in Rosyth Quarry, and I hope future generations will continue to enjoy healthy outdoor sport in real-world situations.

Anonymousthe quarry is an important place for climbing. There's not much climbing about Edinburgh. Loss of recreational space affects the whole area.

John DonaldI would be very unhappy about the use of this quarry for dumping purposes. It has been a recreational climbing venue for many, many years and it is very important it is kept for this rectreational purpose.

Christoph AulbachI had my first outdoor climbing session there and it is a really good place to start off with. Keep it!

Colin DoddsThis is the most suitable outdoor rock climbing venue for Edinburgh based beginners, and one of the few venues that can be easily accessed by public transport. Without this venue many youths may not be able to progress in the sport.

Sean BellId be sad to see this crag disappear, Ive spent many a good evening in there, some of the climbs are superb and very good for taking your first steps onto the rock. With its ease of access and its proximity to the Edinburgh International Climbing Arena at Ratho, It would be a valuable outdoor training ground lost if it were to go.. Save the quarry!
Davy VirdeeRoysth Quarry is a valuble outdoor resource - its ease of access provides many - and in particular young people via public transport- with access to rock climbing. Davy Virdee - Mountaineering Instructor, Edinburgh
Adam HughesIt would be a shame to lose a local venue that offers a range of introductory climbs with easy access. This is used by groups and individuals to climb on as there is not much else available near Edinburgh. This means groups will have to travel further more regulaly ( can't be good for the evironment). Also, a number of people, including myself work there dogs through there. This will even force more youths onto the streets (dramatic effect).

AnonymousPlease don't fill in the quarry its a valuable outdoor climbing venue for the area.
Sian RichardsLead my 1st VS at Rosyth Quarry the other day..... Heathy - a fabulous climb, also went up Cathy and Broken Pillar. It would be a terrible shame to lose such fantastic climbs!
thomasaneurinsmithI went to Rosyth Quarry for the first time last week and it was fantastic! To lose such a great climbing venue would be a real tradgedy. Rosyth Quarry is a place where both respectable climbers and neds alike can enjoy being outdoors doing exercise in a society that is increasingly fat and watching TV. In the wider sense, creating more landfill sites is clearly not the long term solution to the problems of waste. To allow this kind of waste disposal in a venue which is invaluable as a sporting area is clearly wrong.

Stephen HolmesThere are not that many crags in the local vicinity and Rosyth Quarry is a valuable resource to the climbing community.
John DowensMy first outdoor venue, and first lead. Haven't been back since, but still would like to try a few more of the routes there at some point
