This is a petition to the Principal and other members of the Excutive Group of Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen to be submitted to them as soon as possible but certainly by Thursday 1st June 2006. PLEASE CONTINUE TO SIGN AFTER THIS DATE AS THREAT OF 100% DEDUCTION IS STILL THERE. In a letter to all staff (but directed mainly to AUT & EIS members) on Tuesday 23rd May 2006, the Director of Human Resources at RGU, David Briggs, stated that RGU would be deducting 100% of pay from those staff who are boycotting assessments from Monday 29th May 2006 on a continual basis, until the action is stopped.
In support of our petition we make the following obervations:
1. Staff taking part in the legally balloted action short of a strike are still performing all their other normal duties, including supervising students doing research.
2. RGU does have the money to mandate UCEA to increase the current 3.5% per year for 3 years pay offer.
3. This pay dispute is about recognising the worth of staff who are working long hours now and for those who wish to enter the profession in the future - including our students who are regrettably being hurt by the employers lack of action regarding a real and credible pay offer.
4. This is one of the most cruel ways to treat staff taking legal industrial action. The infliction of 100% pay deduction is damaging to staff and the Robert Gordon University.
5. With talks at a national level currently ongoing between AUT, NATFHE & UCEA, the decision by RGU to impose 'lockout' is totally unnecessary and will cause lasting injury.
