From the moving day, things were awful. As we were moving our things into the apartment, we were greeted suddenly after a fourth trip to the car by people in the apartment ripping out under the sink. Obviously our Inspection Charge was worthless considering they never told us that there was problem with the sink. Both my Fiancée and I, regardless of the filthy toilets, terribly clogged sink and dirty, stained carpets, tried to be optimistic about our first few weeks here, until the unthinkable happened.
We are in a Studio apartment, and our bed can be seen from the entranceway into the apartment. I am a heavy sleeper, and when my fiancée left for work, I was still in a deep sleep. I awoke to my horror to voices in my apartment. The maintenance men were IN my apartment with me, very visible from the door, asleep. I was so scared that I remained still until they eventually left. The week after this incident they appeared in my apartment when my fiancée left to try and “fix” the damn sink.
On one occasion, I fled from my apartment and stayed in my car while it snowed for 3 hours while the maintenance people worked in my apartment unsupervised until 7 o’clock at night. Unbelievable BS… well the smells of pot that make it impossible to breathe in the morning and cigarette butts in the halls seems silly to complain about, but every time I woke up gasping for breath made me more and more furious. My car was broken into, and my things stolen. Banging and other yelling and screaming from people on the lower floors have been unnerving. It just doesn’t seem to end.
We have complained, and my Fiancée was so angry about the maintenance people that he called and complained, 4 times. They said that they had suspended the men that had come into our apartment, but I saw them the very next day. Also, our bill has been incorrect and often not sent on time to our mailbox ever since we have moved in. When my Fiancée tried to explain the situation, he was treated like crap and it took him and hour and a ½ to get a chance to have someone tell him to “not worry about it”.
I know that I am not the only one that feels like this. Very recently I saw a sign on our buildings door that stated that there was a severe mouse problem in our building, and that the complex is doing nothing, as well as possibly spraying chemicals that are potentially harmful in our building without our knowledge. Remember people, the maintenance people have keys to your apartment and mine, and trust me they will come as the please no matter what.
Does this sound like something that has happened to you? Is all of this old news? If anyone is still renting and feels the same as we do please sign our petition. We are trying to do what we can, and I implore you to do the same, for the good of yourselves and your families/pets. We don’t have to live this way. All we ask is a name to help support the petition and allow some real investigation to take place. |
