The point of this online petition, which will be sent to the Scottish parliamentīs petitions commitee is to highlight the growing support for the campaign to make Scotland 100% renewable in terms of energy production within a Generation.
Given the scale of the climate change problem facing the planet, it is felt that the government at UK, Scottish and Local levels is not even carrying out the barest minimum of actions neccesary to help reverse the current ecological conditions.
In addition, by sticking rigidly to the Kyoto agreement, and by setting unambitious targets of just 20% energy production by renewable methods for the UK and 40% for Scotland they are leading us closer to environmental disaster.
Further, nuclear power, whilst not a producer of CO2, is for other reasons evironmentally disasterous, as evidence from the last century has shown. The government should scrap all plans for future Nuclear developments as being environmentally disasterous and against the will and the want of the people of Scotland.
Instead of more Nukes, the goverment should invest massively in the renewables sector and seriously contemplate the formation of a Publicly owned National Energy Corporation run by the communities and workers afffected by its operation.
Also, the proffit driven, free market system currently used to deliver renewables has lead to an over emphasis on on-shore wind technologies. We call for further massive research and development investment in ALL forms of renewable energies which include off-shore wind turbines Hydrogen power, wave and tidal turbines and micro-generators, such as watermills and micro-solar and Biomass generators.
100% RENEWABLES IN A GENERATION! |
