I think everyone would like the world to be a better place in which to live, but we all need to do our part to make that happen. |

| 408 | L.A. Pomeroy | Will we also be ready to face the responsibility of all the racehorses such recommendations will take off the track, and perhaps rightly so, but will then need homes? How do we address the racing industry without sending those we are trying to save on a path to slaughter? Think hard about the big picture here everyone... |

| 420 | E. Barnet | I had a bad feeling about the Derby race that day. I could not bring myselt to watch and turned the TV off, even though I tuned in only seconds before. My thoughts were of Barbaro; I was extremely sickened and upset for weeks after his injury and cannot get that video out of my mind. I knew I could not bear to watch another horse breakdown on the track.
I'm glad I trusted my instincts and did not witness the tragedy of Eight Belles. I am doubtful that I can EVER watch another race, despite being a lifelong lover of all horses and horse sports.
PLEASE, PLEASE, take immediate action to stop the needless injury, suffering and death of these beautiful, courageous horses. |

| 425 | Leigh Conducy | This is a travesty. Your disregard for the care of these animals, who I might add helped build America. You must stop and take action |
| 426 | Anonymous | I love watching thoroughbred racing but seeing a horse break down on the track devastates me & makes me question if I should continue supporting the sport or not. Making it as safe as possible for these beautiful animals should be made the highest priority in the industry. |
| 427 | Roberta Feldhause | I would also like to add to the petition a statement encouraging race horse owners to donate their retired race horses to rescue organizations instead of selling them to killer acutions. I watched an HBO sports show and was shocked with the way these horeses are being slaughtered. |

| 429 | Anonymous | In a country where it is "cool" to be a vegetarian, or to refuse to wear fur coats, or to ban the slaughter of horses, it is about time that we consider a racehorse as a living being too, not just another means to make money. This country is absolutely flooded with unwanted horses, in large part due to activities such as horse racing where horses are bred in huge numbers, used briefly, and then passed on very inexpensively at a young age and often with soundness problems. It is awful that we treat these animals with such little regard while at the same time we refuse to eat meat or wear fur. |
| 430 | Ellen Smith | While I support his petition, I also wish the industry would add a section studying the age of the horses and consider not racing 2-year-olds. |
| 431 | Ashlea | I am an Arabian person, I do like TB's too, but my arab that I have is an OT Arab! I agree that they are pushing them too far and too fast. Its like taking your child who is 5 years old and having them run a marathon. Who cares if they have been training for most of their life and are "ready" for it. Is it really worth taking the risk of a life for our "well being" and pleasure? I say NO! |

| 439 | George Park | Race horses are pushed too hard before growth plates have begun to close. By the time they are three they are used up and broken down.
A good trainer would not even put a horse under saddle before they are three. |

| 444 | Marjie Tomter | I know many former fans who are saying they are through with racing because of the trauma of these deaths. Others are saying there must be tougher standards for the health of the horses. It is critical that the public be assured that things are going to improve. |
| 445 | Erin Roten | |
| 446 | Leslie Davis | If a horse has shoes on since it starts training (in the racing industry, sometimes as early as one year old), the circulation is compromised from that time forward. The hoof must "flex" all the way around the hoof in order for the hoof to preform as it was designed to do. There is a tremendous blood flow through the hoof to supply nutrients to bones and tissue. When that blood flow is compromised, bones and tissues do not get the nutrients needed.
Until horses are allowed to have their feet trimmed correctly and remain barefoot, injuries to young horses will continue.
Owners, trainers, and race track farriers need to open their minds and research about the function of the hoof. If I had as much invested in a racehorse as these folks do, I would certainly be looking to educate myself. |
