It is time for a review of Federal Government policy in relation to employment and employment policies, of the requirements that are often left unfulfilled by Federal Government employees across all areas of government.

The children of some of these employees are being shortchanged, robbed of the support that comes from a transparent and honest tax declaration each year. All Australians are required to file each year, so why the leniency for government employees?

We strongly believe that holding a position within the government, whether State or Federal in nature, is a privilege, and must be treated with the respect that such an appointment merits. We believe that employees should provide a strong example of what is right and just within the government, and dutifully adhere to the regulations that guide all departments.

Federal Government employees are currently allowed to enjoy continual employment while not complying with the policies of other Federal Government departments.

The purpose of this petition is to ask why government employees in Australia, who have continuing employment within the system we are all required to abide by, are given free rein to ignore the fundamental regulations that ordinary taxpayers are held to.

What kind of policies are in place to ensure each department is aware when their employees fail to comply with other Government Department regulations? We are seeking a review of the government employee policies that allow these loopholes.

To put our concerns in context, we offer a real-life example. A Federal Government employee has failed to submit tax returns for the past two financial years, resulting in not dutifully fulfilling their legal obligations with the Child Support Agency.

Our concern is that the failure to comply and report to the ATO a correct taxable income has a detrimental effect, specifically for the ongoing care of children.

This is a failure to comply with CSA obligations that require submission of a tax return at the end of each financial year, reporting taxable income and providing fair calculated payment of child support in arrears.

We question how many other families are in a similar situation?

We ask for a review, and consideration around guidelines that should be part of any company employee contract – all employees must adhere to fair workplace guidelines that are reasonable in expectation, and more importantly, reflect the strong ethical values of the company or governmental entity they are working for.
