Donald W. Prieto | 2001 F150, 4.6ltr motor, #3 plug blew on 2-1-08.
Anonymous | Our 2002 Escape's # 4 cyl. just threw a plug. Just put a new coli pack and a set of plugs in the car a few months ago. Nothing seemed loose then. It's hard to believe that Ford cannot warranty, or assume fault for a the cyl head not being able to hold plug. Parts wear out, but threads giving up? I agree...Ford needs to step in here, or loose another customer.
Steve Brincat | I have a 2000 expedition with 74000 miles on it. Just had No.6 spark plug blow out of cylinder. My estamated cost is $2400.
ed nelms | I own a 2004 f150 super crew 4x4 5.4 3 valve really not looking forward to this . It should be recaled!
Larry C. Levitt | 2003 Ford Expedition 5.4 engine coil and sparkplug blown
Jeannette | I have a 2000 F250 V 10 superduty and I have had a total of three sparks plug shot out of my engine and this isnt cheap to get fix the fix. The first one was 04/2006 then a month later another one now I just had it happen again on 02/04/2008 and the worst thing is I have another ford truck. Ford needs to step up to the plate here and pay us all back and pay for the ones that still need to get there trucks fix.
Tom Costa | I had a plug blow out on the passenger side less than a year ago. My mechanic put in a helicoil wich jusy blew out. there is now a better product available to fix but since we fixed it once with the helicoil it is not an option.
David Bell | Have a 2003 Excursion Limited with V-10 gas engine....Had one plug blow out two weeks ago while driving about 25 m.p.h. Considered inserts and heli coils (spelling?). Had head pulled off and three other threads are looking bad. Considered possibility that same condition exists on other side of engine...weighed various costs and the fact that I LIKE my Excursion. Decided to install new engine and be done with problem until it develops with new engine. Have about 106,000 miles on truck and hope to get another 100k.....Figured cost of new engine is not too much more than value I would lose on new vehicle when I drive it off of lot.
Mark Wangerin | I spent 4400.00 on new updated heads. This is a Ford default. Bad design. I want my money back.
Leonard Wangerin | have a 2001 expedition
ken st. pierre | i have a 2002 ford expedition. i had the #8 i think, last one on the passenger side. havent fixed it yet.
Michael Dean | I have a 1999 Ford Expedition and it has blown out #2 plug twice. I repaired it the first time with a kit that ford company supposedly is saying that it's the fix for there product. However the kit I bought was called a Full Torque Kit and I received the inserts that was to factory spec. Now there saying it should have been a full thread insert. I was not able to remove the existing insert and now have to remove the head to have a new head installed. I am very disappointed that ford has not recalled these vehicles for this problem. I do think they should pay for this even is you have had it fixed.
Anonymous | I have had the same problem with my 1999 ford expedition. It has blown out the problem twice. I repaired it the first time with a kit call The Full Torque Kit. They say that ford will be looking at these and telling everyone that this it a fix for there problem. however i think they sould have to pay for the repairs. This is a flaw in there design.
David Overman | 2001 Ford F-150 5.4l 110k miles and had cylinder #6 blow a spark plug. ford should make it right and cover this. if it was a crysler product we wouldnt be having as much problem with customer service.
Kevin Markle | Feb, 12 2008 - 1999 Expedition ejected #3 plug at approx. 10mph. Real Happy....now the repair bill will cost more than the the truck is worth.
Manuel L. Lam | This is nothing but a recall situation, and that is how it should be handled.........
Mike Wilson | My 2000 F250 V-10 blew a spark plug 3 weeks ago, $2200 to fix, blew another one today. This is ridiculous. I won't have another ford.
Mike Wilson | My 2000 F250 V-10 blew a spark plug 3 weeks ago, $2200 to fix, blew another one today. This is ridiculous. I won't have another ford.
Mike Wilson | My 2000 F250 V-10 blew a spark plug 3 weeks ago, $2200 to fix, blew another one today. This is ridiculous. I won't have another ford.
christine worland | I own a 2002 Ford F250 V10 and in the last two months, three different spark plugs have blown taking the coil with it of course. The coils cost over a hundred dollars a piece and I was told by a Ford rep it was rare for them to go out. Obviously not with it spitting out spark plugs every few weeks. This last time was on the way to the desert fully loaded with a trailer in tow. Its at the dealer right now, but Ford needs to do something
Dallas Bond | I have a 2000 Ford Excursion V-10 Limited. This vehicle has been great for a family of six especially when traveling but with it blowing the Spark Plug now out of the fourth Cylinder on the Drivers side and taking out the Coil with it twice, I question why Ford has not recalled and made the repair. Apparently the money we pay for this vehicle is good enough for Ford to take but not good enough for them to stand behind repairing their flawed engine design. No wonder the foreign autos are selling so well.
Chad Psilopoulos | 2002 expeditiom #8 plug just blew out again, this is so wrong!! you know how hard it is to get in to the #8 plug. I will never own a Ford again this is it!!!
Yong Kim | This has happened to me in my '01 Ford Lightning with only ~30,000 miles. I don't drive it often so by this time, the truck was off warranty. I had to pay for brand new heads and labor that cost me over $5,000! The Ford dealership would not acknowledge the design flaw in the old heads.
Jose Nieto | It is unbeleivable that Ford is hiding behind a wall of denial on this issue. This is the last Ford vhicle I will ever own.
John Pearce | I'm just now understanding why I got such a bargain on my 2000 Expedition with 90k miles - it has pop-out plugs, poor performance and hi-maintenance to boot. My last Ford, and my family's last Ford.
Ted Colussi | I have had 3 spark plugs that have blown out of our 2000 Ford V-10 Super Duty In the last month. Our local Ford dealer said they have never seen heard of this. I see all the complaints under consumer affairs and filed an action with Office of Defects & Recalls. Built Ford Tough.... I don't think so!
Paul Bond | 2001 F250 SD with a 5.4L. Second plug from the front on the driver side ejected two days ago taking cop with it. Limped home on 7 cylinders, haven't repaired yet.
Anonymous | I own a 1998 ford expedition and it to has a problem with the #2 sparkplug
jeff kovene | I knew I should'nt have strayed into a ford relationship! I never had these kind of problems with my true blue bow ties. F@#% ford and this 00 E350 scooper doody!!! BACK TO GM, BACK TO RELIABILITY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Joel Groshong | Ford is the loser here. My next truck will be a toyota. they stepped up when my V-6 was bad. they still stepup 10 years later
Michael MacDonald |
Wayne Hammons | 2000 Ford F250. My engine ejected the spark plug on may way home a couple of weeks ago. It has been sitting in the driveway ever since. I was lucky enough to discover there was a potential issue with the 5.4 L motor prior to the ejection, so I at least knew what had happened. Any reputable manufacturer would do the right thing in the interest of retaining customers. This says a lot about Ford.
Joe Ciprian | I wish i would have known of these issues before I purchased my 2002 F-150 FX4. Not looking forward to dealing with this. Ford needs to do the right thing.
| 434 | patrick conway | my 1999 f-250 super duty blew the spark plug out for the second time in less than two years. My truck has 119,000 miles on it and ford said there is no problem with their cylinder heads that a bunch of
Bull S%. |
Mark | Just had my back passenger side plug blow. Will cost over $3,000 to fix.
Anonymous | i have a 2002 excursion with only 31,000 miles and the v-10. the plug that blew out was the second from rear passenger side. if ford denies a defect in their head design, and blames the spark plug, well the platinum spark plugs are motorcraft, who owns motorcraft? correct!! ford does. so my question is, if ford wants to say the plugs are at fault and they are 100,000 mile plugs, shouldn't they be warranteed? in truth, the heads are to blame. ford will never accept responsibility for this problem on their own, all we can hope for is enough complaints that someone of importance takes notice. i am sure that if this happened to a politician, something would surely be done. sadly, you pay hard earned money for these trucks and then you get to pay for fords flaws also. good luck to all.thanks for reading..
robert Boehmer | Hi I was # 264 on the signing my problem is now over I traded that mountaineer for a chevy trailblazer no more plug problems. A life long of ford cars and truck shame on you ford you get what you deserve
Charles Parker | 2002 Merc Mountaineer-65,000, #2 plug
tony romero | My number three plug blew out this week, ford wanted over 4,000 to replace the head, they instead are installing the new tread system. Now i am going to be afraid to take any long trips.
John Hodge | I have been a loyal Ford truck owner for years but after having had 2 spark plugs blow out of the engine ,the second plug ejection required a new head ,I am very upset with Ford and don't intend on buying another Ford product .
| 441 | Kathy Jones | 2003 Ford Expedition with this repair needed at 86,000 miles.
Mechanic said he keeps getting these to fix...all of them Fords |
Emily Smith | This is my 2nd blow out of my sparkplugs. My baby daughter was in the car and we were on the highway . It is a safety issue !!!!!!!
Smith | I am so disappointed in Ford. I have been a great ford fan and after owning one Chrysler said I was going back to Ford, I did, and planned to stay with for from then on. My coils are going out , have replaced 5 so far. the last 3 in the last 3 weeks and another appears to be going out today. I am sick of this. This is obviously a design problem or the ford mechanics have not been trained to see the raly problem that is causing coils to blow every 50 miles or so. And now it sould like I am looking at a possible future problem that even ruins the engine. As soon as possible I am trading it in and trying Toyota. Sorry Ford but I trusted you.
James Whitaker | 2002 Ford F150 blew a plug, damaged the head, am told I will need engine rebuilt. Still owe thousands$$$ and now have to come up with thousands to repair a truck I can't trade in!
Brian Butts | #3 Plug blew yesterday. Unless Ford makes this right, I won't buy another Ford vehicle. Pi$$ poor design.......and then not owning up to it, you're going to lose alot of customers.

Don Marso | I just turned over 100,000 miles and now I have that engine tick I've been reading about. going to take it in to see if its the spark plug issue. Ford needs to take notice and stand by their product.
Shaun Cruz | I just purchased a used 2003 Mercury Mountaineer and in less than three months my truck is in the shop right now with a stripped spark plug. I am not sure how this will be resolved but it seemed strange to me. I did some research and found all of these complaints against the heads on these trucks and for the first time I am starting to seriously have negative feelings towards my purchase. I am hoping that there will be a admission of liability on Ford's end and a solution presented.
Steve Pruitt |
Derek Drake | Just had spark plug #3 blown out of my 2003 Ford Expedition. Luckily the repairs were minimal, but Ford should address this issue if they want to keep this consumer buying their product in the future.
