Jerry DuPree | I have had 2 plug blow out of my 1999 triton 5.4. The first Ford repaired for around $900. The second time this occurred Ford wanted $2600 to repair it. I chose to buy the tool and insert and my son and I repaired for around $750. There is definitely a design flaw. My dealer told me he had only heard of this happening on one other occasion. Yea right.
josh | I blew out the number three plug on the passager side on my 1999 ford f-250. Havent got it fixed yet tring to figure out the best way to fix it.
James Garner | i have a 2001 expedition that just had the #3 blow out on the freeway. i only drive it once or twice a month. i was able to control it enought o get it out of traffic, but what if it had been any other day with my wife and three kids were in the car. is the tread insert the best fix, other than buying a chevy :(... IS FORD DOING ANYTHING?
Richard A. Martens, Jr. | 99 E350 90k miles, had an insert installed and dumped it on a Ford dealer in trade for a used '06 E350 with FULLY THREADED spark plugs.
Jaden O | 2005 Ford F-150 / Sadly to say it looks like the spark plug problems continue in the new 5.4L Triton engines. My 05 F-150 has been at the dealer for 5 weeks now trying to get Ford to buck up for engine repairs for an intermittent knocking noise in the engine. the dealer has found a spark plug that broke off and cracked the cylinder head, this has become a new problem, I guess in an effort to keep plugs from blowing out on older engine designs ford has stopped putting anti-seize on the new plugs making them impossible to remove without breaking off as the engines and plugs age. This is a $3000.00 repair and I am getting it covered under warranty (31,892 miles on the truck), but it has required a lot of effort and time under my part. I am very dissapointed in Ford and realize they are struggling financially but I am not sure if this is the right place to save money by looking for excuses to not repair engines with design flaws especially if those engines are still under the manufacturer warranty. Shame on them!
Theodore Kluska | Ford SUCKS! 1998 Expedition - # 4 plug shot out of plug well while 45 miles away from home. I had to get towed with a flat bed truck. Had Chapman Ford in Philadelphia, PA replace all spark plugs only one year prior. Hummmmm???????? I hear Ford has designed the plug well inefficiently in that they have blanked out the threads of first two thirds of the plug well, allowing only one third of the actual spark plugs threads to catch. This is a NO-NO in an aluminum block engine, since the head expands and contracts so much under normal driving conditions, the few threads that are actually caught are not enough to hold the spark plug in the head. Should it become slightly looseend, it will shoot out like a rocket, stripping the plug well threads on its' way out. I will never own another Ford product even if given to me for nothing, because that is all they are worth.............NOTHING, ZERO, JUNK!
| 207 | Fred Reim | I own a 1997 E-350 Van and have had the #3 sparkplug blow out twice. The first time repaired by Ford dealer, second time is still being worked on.
Ford has not been of any assistance except that they are willing to take my money for temporary fixes that seem to fail at the worst time. |
Jason McGlenon | I have been a faithful Ford owner everysince I was old enough to drive, I've owned at least 15 different Ford vehicles but now I am considering a competitor because of this blown plug issue. Thank you Ford!
Anonymous | My 2001 Ford Expedition has shot 2 spark plugs within 2 months of each other. I intend to ask ford to fix the problem, because the SUV has been pretty good until now.
Roy Clements | I Blew #3 plug on my 4-door 4X4 F250 super duty, I've been a Ford Man all my life, I stuck up for Ford when all my buddies were driving GM, Now I find out that Ford knew about this problem, and looking the other way, well I might have to do the same when I go by the Ford lot looking for my next TRUCK.
Fred Hershberger | I was driving down the road when I heard a loud noise which I thought was my exhaust. Turned out to be my spark plug that was shot out of my engine.

Lance York | I have a 2004 Supercrew FX4, 88,000 miles on it. Took it to the ford place, a mechanic broke off a spark plug in the head, they want us to pay for it. Sorry, but it is damn sure not my fault, I didn't break anything. Ford got scared and glued these plugs in and now they don't come out without breaking.

Antoine C. Denson | I HAVE A FORD EXPEDITION 2003, I AM A SERVICE MEMBER STATIONED IN KOREA. MY SUV HAS A SPARK PLUG DEFECT, MY RIGHT REAR SPARK PLUG CAME OUT OF THE HEAD CYLINDER. IT IS GOING TO COST ME $ 5, 700.00 TO FIX MY TRUCK. I FEEL LIKE I HAVE BEEN RIPPED OFF BECAUSE FORD MOTOR COMPANY DOES NOT WANT TO TAKE RESPONBILITY TO FIX THEIR VEHICLE DEFECTS. I ENJOY MY SUV BUT I DO NOT WANT TO BE CHEATED BECAUSE OF A DESIGN DEFECT THAT CAUSE THE SPARK PLUG TO COME OUT OFTHE ENGINE HEAD. tHE FORD EXPEDITION NEEDS TO BE RECALLED TO FIX THIS MAJOR FAULT IN SUV ENGINE.

Carl Earhart | 9-25-2007 2002 F-350 V-10 66000 miles. I too had a spark plug blow out. I brought it into the Ford dealership and they wanted $3300.00 to replace the head. I figured replacing the head didn't guarantee another wouldn't blow out tomorrow. I contacted the Ford Motor Company requesting some kind of assistance and they declined to help. Pissed off to no end I graciously thanked them for their time. I contacted a local mechanic and he informed me I was only one of many that has had this problem. For $800.00 he is going to install some kind kit that Ford has recently released to fix the problem. Does that mean Ford is in some way admitting there is a defect, and this is a way of biding some time before admitting they have a serious problem on their hands before they do a recall? What choice does a person have? Who knows if another one going to blow out tomorrow? I'm starting to think I should have kept my Toyota truck that had 150000 miles and only replaced the battery and tires in the 14 years I owned it.

Matt Dinges | My 1997 5.4L f150 blew #3 while idling, with no prior noise or warning. Plugs were changed at dealer at 80k- plug blew at 120k. Obvious poor design-cheap engineering.
Kenneth Schoonover | Just had my 2000 Expedition spit a plug. I didn't know this was a big problem.
Brian Pease | I have a ford 2003 f250 it spit a spark plug & took the threads with it the repairs cost $2000.00 ford said there is no recall on this. My truck does not even have 60k miles on it.
Kent Hallford | I have a 1999 Ford Expedition 5.4L V8 and have repaired one sparkplug blowout and now a second sparkplug has blown, but I have not fixed it. I also have 2002 F150, but have not had the problem, yet. I gladly sign this petition to make Ford do the Right Thing.
Anonymous | My 1997 F150 blew the #3 plug at 135,000 miles. New plugs installed at 90,000. This is my third Ford pickup since 1980. It will probably be my last.

Mike Snyder | Ford should step up and fix this issue
Don Burns | Add me to the list of dissatisfied Ford customers. American quaility at its best.
Tom Derouin | Blew # 3 tonight on my 02 expedition. Not a happy camper
Brian Hoese | My #2 plug blew on ignition just yesterday which is the first I have heard or looked into this problem which seems to happen very often from what I am learning. This should be a recall when its almost a guarantee for it to happen even if its at high mileage.

Traci Graham | 99 Ford Expedition, 131K miles, blew 3rd spark plug on pass. side. Left my young daughter and I stranded on a un-lit, remote road last night for HOURS! I saved for 2 years to buy a new car and as a single parent cannot afford the estimated $5,000 to repair my only means of transportation. I am a 3rd generation Ford owner, which is no longer the case after tonight!
Jeremy Howell | I own a 2003 expedition with a 5.4 and number 3 spark plug has shot out. The ford dealers told me several have came in with the same problem.
