Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would be considering selling my Expedition. As many have found out the Triton 5.4 has a design flaw that is spitting spark plugs. We had to also install a heli coil and now do not feel comfortable driving a vehicle that could breakdown at any moment. Always been a Ford fan but GMC here I come. |
| 154 | Jeff Cornelius | Just blew out # 3 plug on my 98 expedition, this engine has 2500 miles on it since it was replaced at a cost of 5000.00, this is ridiculis, I am amazed at how many of us this has happened to, took truck to ford dealer and was amazed when mechanic knew right away what problem was without even looking at vechicle, and said this is a common problem with these engines, I cannot believe the federal government has not forced ford in calling for a re-call, I pulled truck to my house and will be doing repair myself- do not intend on giving ford any more of my buisness, and will be trading in my 01 mustang, my 01 F350, AND THIS PIECE OF FORD JUNK and am going to another manufacture, probably foreign, as it is obvious there is more accountability and more pride in their products. GOOD LUCK TO THE REST OF YOU. |

| 158 | Michael | I own an F 150 Lightning that was manufactured in 2000. I was very happy with my Ford till January'07 when the 3rd plug blew out of the cylinder head. My truck had only 65,000 miles and when this happened I was driving really slowly as I had arrived at a STOP sign. It was a real problem to repair my truck as I had to contact an automotive shop in America when I actually live in Malta-Europe. To play it safe I bought both right and left side cylinder heads and replaced them. I noticed that the cylinder heads bought recently have twice the thread of the old ones. I paid USD6,000 to do this repair and I really felt upset when I found out about all these people who had my same problem.... I feel that Ford is not taking the responsibility that it should and it's not fair to have so many dissatisfied customers....
I was lucky to have found the parts specialist that understood what had happened and was able to send the adequate parts.

OTHER FORD OLDER 5.0 MUSTANG .IT HAD TRANS OVERDRIVE PROBLEMS. I DONT TRUST THE DEALERS THEY DONT FIX THE PROBLEMS AND CAUSE OTHERS. I HAVE SINCE TRAINED MYSELF TO DO MY OWN REPAIRS AND HAVE BECOME ASE CERTIFIED .I WILL STICK WITH OLDER FORDS, WHICH REPAIR EASILY. LIKE MY WIFES 1989 F150 302 WITH ONLY 32000 MILES EATS GAS .BUT ITS PAID FOR AND CHEAP TO REPAIR. I WILL SAVE UP FOR A TOYOTA LEXAS AS MY NEXT VEHICLE PURCHASE AND SAY GOODBYE FOR. |

| 171 | Jack Head | My 2000 Ford Excursion V10 blew the same plug for the second time. It was on the passenger side second from the rear. They were the original Motorcraft plugs from the factory. The first time it blew I was able to re insert a new plug and torque it down however it blew again 3 months later. Now the threads are damaged from the plug beating around and 2 coil packs destroyed. Both times it blew the coil pack was beating the crap out of my fuel rail. I have seen pictures where this same problem has caused fires in other peoples Ford Trucks. This is not only a fire hazard but an electrocution hazard as the spring is exposed in the coil pack after the blowout. Most people pop the hood to see what the problem is with the engine running and could get electrocuted.
I had taken it to a local Ford dealership here in Chesterfield Michigan because I heard an engine knock on the same side the plug blew the year before and they claim they found nothing causing the noise. Now I know after reading all the posts everywhere online that the engine knock was the plug vibrating loose. Could Ford have known this was an issue and ignored it at the time I took it in? I think so since this has been happening to thousands of people for years now. All they had to do was check the plugs and tighten them up.
Imagine what it is going to cost all of us every time this happens over and over again. It could potentially cost us more than what we paid for the vehicle. It will for sure drive down the resale value at the least and eventually it would not be cost effective to replace the heads as it will cost more that what the vehicle is worth. Ford needs to step up to the plate and recall these vehicles or at least have a TSB to replace the heads with an improved model as they blow. I would even be willing to pay Ford the $80 an hour as long as they replaced the heads with ones that will never blow the plugs again. |
