Dear Mr. Byrne, I am reminded of an anonymous saying that rings true for you today. "to the world, you just might be one person, but to one person, you just might be the whole world." I believe this to be true in Prossy's respect. I beseech you to provide for Prossy's safety, please do not send her back to Uganda. Prossy's life is literally in your hands. When one is confronted between life and death, it is always best to choose life!!! thank you for your time, sincerely Velma Garcia/Austin, TX, USA |

Re: Prossy Kakooza - Home Office Ref: K1268314
I am writing to raise my concerns about Ms Kakooza, a Ugandan lesbian seeking asylum in the UK.
Ms Kakooza was brutally assaulted by her family and by the authorities in Uganda. She managed to escape to the UK but when her GP saw the extent of her injuries the police were called. She is now receiving treatment for post traumatic distress disorder at St Mary's Hospital in Manchester.
At her tribunal the judge believed she was lesbian and believed that she had been brutally treated but is under the mistaken impression it would be safe to return her to another part of Uganda. This does not recognise the fact that homosexuality is illegal in all of Uganda and is routinely punished by imprisonment of between 7 years and life.
The culture in Uganda is incredibly homophobic: one of the founding myths of the country is the case of the Ugandan Martyrs - young men who were killed rather than submit to the advances of a gay tribal king. Churches condemn homosexuality, and newspapers - including one owned by the president's brother - routinely "name and shame" lesbians and gay men.
I note your commendable record in voting in the House in favour of gay rights and am sure that as a member of the Christian Socialist movement you will be appalled at how Prossy has been treated. She is now an active member of her local Metropolitan Community Church - which works with lesbians and gay men - is volunteering in her local Oxfam shop, and is eager to play a full part in our society.
I am asking that her case is looked at again in the hope that she can be granted leave to remain in the United Kingdom.

| 24 | Rev. Jeff Bert | |
| 25 | Elizabeth Jensen-Forbell | I pray you will think before ruining this woman's life, and possibly killing her. |
| 26 | Anita Gibbins | Please reconsider the case and situation of Prossy and allow her to remain in the United Kingdom. |
| 27 | Wendy LaChaunce | |
| 28 | Catherine Dearlove | A basic human right is for someone to live as the person they are - not be judged (when their lifestyle is not harming others). Please ensure this lady, who has endured so much already, is allowed to rebuild her life in a country that can offer her support and love and do not send her back to her country of origin where she will not live, no matter which part of the country she moves to. |
| 29 | John Brown | No one should have to suffer or be killed because of their sexual orientation, This is the 21st century and that type of stuff should be long gone. God teaches us to love all without exception and to judge no one. Lets do that. I will be in prayer |
| 30 | Michael Richardson | I am deeply moved by Prossy's story and wholeheartedly support her application for UK citizenship. |
| 31 | Rachel Mellen | This is terrible. I hope that the UK government reconsiders. If they do not I hope that Miss Kakooza is able to find refuge else where. |
| 32 | Karen M Kelly | |
| 33 | Janette C Wolf | |
| 34 | Julia Thorne | |
| 35 | Richard Bradley | Please let Prossy stay in the UK. This is the compassionate and human thing to do. |
| 36 | Shannon Sesterhenn | |
| 37 | Lisa Wagaman | Allow Prossey to stay in the UK. Just because she is a lesbian is not a reason to be imprisoned. |
| 38 | Curtiss Taylor | Let her stay. She can by staying make a true difference in her own country. |
| 39 | Joellynn Monahan | |
| 40 | Rev. Carolyn J. Mobley | To Whom It May Concern:
I am personally saddened and appauled by the treatment, or I shouldl say, mistreatment of this young Ugandan woman. She is clearly in real danger in her home land. Please great her asylm in the UK so that she may have the opportunity to find love and happiness and build a life for herself.
Thank you fro your assistance.

"treat people how you youself would desire to be treated."
Compassion begins with the individual. |
| 43 | Rev Leigh Neighbour | I suport this petition in helping Prossy to stay in the UK. |
| 44 | Rev. Jon Haack | The injustices perpetrated against gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people in Uganda is well documented. Atrocities committed against Prossy Kakooza are horrible. A nation that seeks justice for all would grant asylum for such an individual even if she is but one person who has suffered in this way. To deport her to any location in Uganda would jeopardize her very life, and such action would be unacceptable from the United Kingdom. |
| 45 | caitlín nicíomhair | |
| 46 | Lyse Baignee | This is a basic human rights issue, not just an issue of sexual orientation. |
| 47 | Mary Cesca | All human beings are called to show love and compassion. We can't help eeveryone but we can help just one! |
| 48 | Christine Rand | |
| 49 | Suzi Wylie | |
| 50 | Anne James | Please please show the love of God for this woman. As an Australian I would fight my own government if they were to lack compassion to someone like Prossy. The world needs to see that Britain is a compassionate nation and Prossy should never be forced to return to such horror. |
