The Petition

Under the leadership of Prince William County Supervisor Wally Covington, the Virginia Department of Transportation and the County Government are in the preliminary stages of planning to improve and pave Glenkirk Road.

As western Prince William county has grown dramatically in recent years, Glenkirk Road has become a busy connector between Vint Hill Road and Linton Hall Road.

About a one mile section of Glenkirk Road remains unpaved and far below modern road standards. It is narrow (in some places nearly impossible for two cars to pass) with very sharp (close to 90 degree) dangerous curves. Often the road is deeply rutted from rain washout.

The government regularly grades the road with new gravel. While helping with the muddiness, ruts and potholes, the loose gravel on sharp curves is very slippery and unsafe. Often the road has a 'washboard' surface that makes it even more unstable and dangerous.

Because of its unsafe condition, there have been numerous traffic accidents on the unpaved section of Glenkirk Road. These accidents have resulted in both property damage and personal injury. The time for addressing this problem is long overdue. Glenkirk Road needs to be brought up to modern standards now.

Citizens for a Safe Glenkirk Road applauds the County's effort to fix Glenkirk. We understand that while preliminary planning has begun, there is no fixed plan or timetable. It is possible that the road improvements could be held up, postponed and delayed for months or even years.

We believe that Glenkirk Road cannot wait. This is no longer the country lane that it once was. It is a busy, important and dangerous cross connection that must be brought up to modern standards immediately.

We ask the people who travel on Glenkirk Road to add their voices to ours. Please sign our electronic petition below.
