To Whom This May Concern:
Paganism, like Christianity, covers many different denominations and should be considered a religion by the United States government.
Paganism is defined by "The American HeritageŽ Dictionary of the English Language, Fourth Edition" as one who is not a Christian, Muslim, or Jew, especially a worshiper of a polytheistic religion. As such, Paganism is comparable to Christianity, in that there are many paths that fall under the term Paganism, as many denominations fall under the term Christianity. Just as Baptist, Pentecostal, and Catholic fall under the term Christian, Wicca, Druid, and traditional Native American are part of Paganism. Because Paganism itself is defined as a worship of gods, it is obviously a religion and should be protected under the United States Constitution, just as Christianity, Muslim, and Judaism are.
I would like to propose that Paganism be accepted and adopted by the United States Congress as a valid religion, deserving of Constitutional protection. I will be sending this petition to Congressional officials by September 1st, 2005.
