TO: H.E. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo
President of the Republic
Malacanang Palace, JP Laurel St.
San Miguel, Manila Philippines
CC: US Congress International Relations Committee
US Congress Human Rights Commission
April 7, 2005
We Filipinos in the U.S. and allies are greatly outraged by the recent wave of human
rights violations and other acts of violence against innocent civilians, progressive
and activist in our beloved motherland the Philippines.
We write to denounce the state terrorism and the “undeclared” martial law in the
country.
The systematic killings and brutalization of at least 40 leaders and members of the
progressive organizations, party list groups and even lawyers, church people and
peasants
By military or paramilitary forces in January and February of this year alone is a
number reminiscent of the US backed Marcos dictatorship.
Leaders and members of BAYAN Muna, BAYAN, Anakpawis, KMP and GABRIELA
continue to be abducted, harassed and victimized by assassination attempts nationwide.
The series of killings and abductions is clearly a campaign to pacify legitimate
dissent of political activists in the country.
We are outraged by the continuing silence and inaction by the government regarding
these atrocities because it indicates that it officially sanctions the repression.
We demand that you immediately issue a statement condemning these acts and intervene
decisively to put an end to killings.
Very truly yours,
