***Important Notice***
There will be a member referendum on these changes in a special meeting on Monday April 4th at 7:30pm at the Ukrainian Hall (23rd and Brown). If you are in support, please complete a member application at www.ourpark.org, bring your dues, and attend.
As resident of the Fairmount/Francisville/Spring Garden community I am deeply upset by the actions of the current board of the Friends of Eastern State Penitentiary Park Board to limit community involvement in said organization by changing FESPP’s bylaws to reduce its composition from a maximum of 9 members to 5 members and to approve a provision that could grant unlimited terms to board members who have served for five or more years.
Enacting such changes to the bylaws just weeks before the annual membership meeting through a special vote without input from the membership is a breach of trust.
I request that the results of the recent bylaw amendment vote be made public at the April 16th meeting, including which board members voted to approve and disapprove said amendments.
I ask that the composition of FESPP’s board be reinstated to 9 people.
I advocate for the abolition of unlimited terms for board members under any circumstance.
I call for the free and open election of board members at the April 16th Shindig.
Finally, I respectfully suggest that as our community moves forward in implementing the OurPark Master Plan, FESPP set a tone of inclusion. It’s what is best for our community and the park. |

Alison and Harry feel strongly that the creation of a park at Eastern State should embrace participation by residents of the Fairmount, Francisville, and Spring Garden neighborhoods. A key part of that is the fair and open election of board members to this organization. |
