The petition
All Oromo living both in the Diaspora and inside Oromia would like to express their appreciation to the people and the government of the Sudan for the generous and kind hospitality they have been rendering to our fathers, mothers, brothers, and sisters who has to flee their home land to save their lives from consecutively Ethiopian governments. The Oromo people choose the Sudan as their save haven from this brutal regimes due to a long standing historical relation between the two people.
Although this has been a fact for a long period, since November 15, 2006 the Sudan government has been detaining many Oromo refugees and sending them back to their home land from where they have escaped death, torture and harassment of the government of Ethiopia. Their repatriation will only give a chance to Ethiopian government to slaughter more of our people who have already escaped. It is needless to mention the human right record of the Ethiopian government against Oromo people and other peace loving people of the country. Human Right Watch, Amnesty International, State Departments Human Right Reports on Ethiopia has repeatedly indicated the brutality of Meles regime in Ethiopia.
We Oromos around the world are highly dismayed by the action taken against our people and we also believe that the Sudan government has no interest to spoil the brotherly relationship between the people of the two countries. Therefore, we the undersigned people humbly appeal to the government of the Sudan to protect them and change his plan of repatriating to Ethiopia.
With Regards
