The petition
Several Canadian provincial governments have been discussing the benefits of reducing the number of physician office system (POS) vendors in Canada's marketplace. While this strategy may have some short-term benefits as eHealth emerges across Canada, the impact to care providers is significant. By reducing the selection of available physician office systems in the Canadian marketplace physicians may be forced to implement productivity tools that are not suited to their practice. This may impact overall quality of care to Canadians.
The strategy being implemented creates market barriers that restrict companies from developing new eHealth products in an emerging Canadian marketplace. Currently there are approximately ten vendors selling POS systems in provinces across Canada. (http://www.open-health.ca/newsevents/)
