| 511 | Mary Fox | While watching these events on television in 1985 I was horrified and ashamed to see law enforcement drop a bomb from the air onto the roof of a family's home in an American city and then open fire on those who attempted to escape the resulting flames. The media mostly parroted the official line as usual in characterizing the MOVE organization, but there was no dispute at the time or since with respect to the excessive use of force by the police as well as the criminal malfeasance of fire officials in intentionally allowing an entire city block of houses to burn to the ground. This was one of most appalling but by no means the only example of police violence directed toward minority communities. It reflects poorly upon the credibility and quality of research at the Guinness Book of World Records to allow such a gross mischaracterization of these events into print. |

The idea that Black people could gather together and challenge the white status quo in any way - is kinda suicidal - or as has become popular "suicide by cop" - many activites fall under this deffinition - such as walking down the street or driving a car a bit too upity for you percieved station -oh - and of couse not being white. Hmm.

They also list the MOVE organization with "cults" and lists the source of this misinformation as "The Cult Information Centre". MOVE is not and has never been a cult. MOVE is an organization and certainly did not commit "mass suicide". This is a malevolent and very dangerous lie. It's a deliberate tactic of this system to defame and misrepresent this organization so that when officials wrong us, treat us unjustly and even murder us, a lot of people will accept and dismiss it because of how we have been characterized by this system. We are asking for your signature to demand the removal of MOVE being labeled a cult and committing mass suicide along with a request that the The Cult Information Centre publicly acknowledge that they are wrong about MOVE and May 1985. |

It's highly ignorant to assume that this sort of thing will be or IS being talked about in public schools, or widely remembered by the public in general. But once you know, you cannot un-know. I will continue to do my personal best to educate myself and those around me on these things that should be widely talked about but are unfortunately more widely ignored (katrina, to name a more current event). |
