RegineOn a Move cannot be wronged in such harmful ways. The truth of these murders should be allowed some peace after such brutality. Take them off of this list!

Hans BennettOn May 13, 1985, in the process of serving arrest and search warrants stemming from a neighborhood dispute, a State Police helicopter dropped a C-4 bomb, illegally supplied by the FBI, on the roof of a West Philadelphia row house occupied by members of the MOVE organization. The bomb started a fire that city authorities allowed to burn, and eventually destroyed 61 homes, leaving 250 people homeless: the entire block of a middle-class black community. Six MOVE adults and five children died. 30 year-old Ramona Africa and 13 year-old Birdie Africa were the only survivors. Today, Ramona recalls escaping from the fire: “We opened the door and started to yell that we were coming out with the kids. The kids were hollering too. We know they heard us but the instant we were visible in the doorway, they opened fire.” Birdie later testified that the children and remaining adults tried several times to escape the burning house, but were driven back by police gunfire, before he and Ramona successfully dodged gunfire and escaped. Despite official police statements denying the shooting, The Philadelphia Special Investigation Commission (The MOVE Commission) appointed by Mayor Wilson Goode confirmed Ramona and Birdie’s accounts, concluding that “police gunfire prevented some occupants of 6221 Osage Ave. from escaping from the burning house to the rear alley.”
Ted PassonThis Guiness posting is absolutely absurd!!
Denise AlvaradoMOVE is not a cult, but rather an organization. They did not commit suicide but were fire bombed by the police. Don't believe everything that's written because there is a lot of misinformation out there!

kemah c. washingtonMOVE members, adults and children were murdered may1985. a day of infamy not only in phila but in the world. there were no suicide, that was never an option for MOVE members. dedicating and sacrificing their lives for freedom and justice were the only options they committed to. the GBWR is criminal in their attempt to misinform the public about the MOVE freedom fighters. Lies and deceit stand on shaky ground but truth built on God's solid rock marches on. LET THE TRUTH BE TOLD AND HEARD!!! ONA MOVE, Kemah.
patty heffleyThe MOVE Organization is not a cult, nor did they commit mass suicide. Please remove these references in your book. Instead write the fact that in 1985 the government dropped C4 explosive by helicopter onto a house in a Philadelphia neighborhood, that the city of Philadelphia bombed its own citizenry, namely the MOVE organization. People died and were injured, including women and children. Some even went to prison. That seems more amazing of a story. Thank You, PH
Harold C. WilsonBrother John Africa, Founded the Move movement from the love of people, animals, life and the mother Earth. This raicst system bombed the Home and murdered him and his loving family unjustly. The MOVE people are known would wide for their principles of life. The Move people are a Organization. This bias system,The Guinness book of world records and the cult information centre in London has know right to Characterize the MOVE Organization as a cult. " You Are Wrong! " Long Live Brother JOHN AFRICA. Harold C. Wilson, The122nd. Exonerated Death Row Prisoner In The U,S.A
Anne LambWhere did this blatant lie come from? Sounds like the Guinness Book of World Records was consulting with COINTELPRO when they wrote this one.

Union of the Working People (Greece)The Union of the Working People (Greece) strongly condemns the new attempt to present the murder of MOVE people as "mass suicide". The Guiness Book of World Records and any other institution implicated in this malevolent slander should immediately rectify this gross lie.
Diarapha Dialloshame on the Guiness Book of World Records!! Move should have been listed with "Mass Murders" by the City of Philadelphia... know history before recording it...

Cuvelard NicolasLet Move people speaking ! they have the right to live like they want, they're not a cult or something like that. And who can lie like this about a system crime ? a crime that no one were responsabilised in it.....

Arturo CastillonThis is a terrible act by the Guinness Book of World Records, intentionaly done to defend the police murders and kill the victims once again, I think you might be able to sue.
sundiata sadiqAfter working with MOVE for the past several years this defamation of the MOVE people is total an outrageous lie and designed to deny those incarcerated for a crime perpetrated by the the Philadelphia police their freedom.

Fatirah AzizIt is a disgrace, not to mention a misuse of the word 'cult' to describe MOVE! This family was bombed and burnt alive by the City of Philadelphia and none other. To classify them as anything but a victim of premeditated murder is an outright lie! I am surprised and disgusted by the Guinness Book and they have lost all credibility with this decision.

Cheryl WrightI personally know the MOVE Organization and, must state emphatically that they are not a cult and did not commit suicide. This government dropped a bomb on United States citizens and murdered 11 members of our society. In my struggle to understand why those of the dominate culture continue to defame African American people, that strive for equality, peace and freedom, it never cease to amaze me that Guinness Book of World Records would shrink to that level of defamation. I would appreciate it greatly if you would correct this Wrong.
Timothy DeanIt ia a travesty how the GBWR is characterizing the deliberate murder of African people as a suicide. Regardless if people supported MOVE or not it was no mystery that the police shot at and bombed that house on Osage Ave. It is unfathomable how in any shape or form that can be percieved as suicide... unless they're implying that standing up to white supremacy is suicide....but we're going to stay ON THE MOVE!

Veronica SmallsThe MOVE family are close and personal friends of mine. It is apalling to me that you would list an organization that is about nothing but ALL FORMS OF LIFE on a list of Mass Sucides. Especially since their members were murdered by the government because of the stance they take against a government that commits murder every day inside and outside of this country. This government poisons our land, its police forces shoot first and ask questions later. This government takes out a countless amount of innocent familes in their wars against countries and people that they label as terrorist just so they can capitalize on the riches of their land. It sits back and watch as people are killed everyday because of racism. This falsehood about MOVE needs to be rectified. Check your facts.
MaryA few of MOVE's spiritual beliefs may be a little difficult for people to understand, but to me, they are no more strange than many of the beliefs of most religions. This I know: MOVE is NOT a cult, and MOVE members did NOT commit a mass suicide in '85. They were murdered for political reasons. The GBoWR MUST retract its designation of MOVE as a cult, and, even more importantly, MUST retract its listing of the '85 bombing by police as a "mass suicide." This is an egregious error on the part of the GBoWR. At least, I hope it is that: an error made in ignorance, and not a campaign of deliberate misinformation.

Rusty ShackelfordHow do you make an obscene atrocity even worse? Blame the Victim!.....In 1986, The MOVE Commission concluded that "dropping a bomb on an occupied row house was unconscionable and should have been rejected out of hand by the mayor, the managing director, the police commissioner and the fire commissioner." Recognizing the racial implications, the Commission wrote that the day’s many disastrous decisions “would not likely have been made had the MOVE house and its occupants been situated in a comparable white neighborhood.”......Charged with conspiracy, riot, and multiple counts of simple and aggravated assault, Ramona Africa served the entirety of her 16-month to 7-year sentence after she was repeatedly denied parole for not renouncing MOVE. At her trial, all charges listed on the May 11 arrest warrant were dismissed by the judge. Says Ramona, “This means that they had no valid reason to even be out there, but they did not dismiss the charges placed on me as a result of what happened after they came out.” Concluding Ramona’s 1986 trial, presiding judge Michael R. Stiles explicitly told the jurors not to consider any wrongdoing by police and other government officials, because they would be held accountable in “other” proceedings. However, no official has ever faced criminal charges. Ramona says today: “People should not be fooled by this government using words like ‘justice.’ My family members, who were parents of most of those children that were murdered on May 13, have been in prison for almost 30 years to this day, for the accusation of a murder that they didn't commit, that nobody saw them commit. Meanwhile, the people who murdered their babies are still collecting paychecks, still seen as respectable, and never did a day in jail.”

Miya McKeythonHow dare they call MOVE a cult and mass suicide. How about they place it in there under "Mass Murder" and place the Philly Cops as the cult. These were human beings trying to live their lives and they were criticized and killed because of their livelyhood.

BJI sent this to lilyb@hitentertainment.com of Guinnies book of Bull_ _ _ _! The death of the members of Move was not suicide. It was a massacre! The powers that be in Philly murdered those people. You at Guinness World Records need to do your research, a bomb was dropped on the house by the Mayor of Philly. How can that be considered a suicide? The survivors of Move should sue you for putting out that Bogus information!

Joan P. Gibbs, Esq.What happened to the Move on may 1984 was not "mass suicide," rather Move members were viciously, in humanely bombed byt eh City of Philadelphia. Move is also not a cult. I therefore with MOve in requesting that the Guinness Book of World Records and The Cult Inofrmation Centre stop spreading lies about Move. Joan P. Gibbs, Esq. Brooklyn, NY

Sally O'Brieni have know the MOVE organization for many years - first having encountered them at the time of their tragic loss of 11 family members after the City of Philadelphia dropped an attache case full of c-4 explosive (only obtainable from the military) on their headquarters - killing 11 people - 5 of them children. As a journlaist and just on a human level, i am shocked that The Guiness Book chose the category of "mass suicide" to list that terrible incident- Obviously the courts felt differently when they awarded the MOVE Organization a substantial moneary settlement with the City of Philadelphia. In the interestes of truth and real recorded history please change this designation. Sincerely, Sally O'Brien - Associate Weekend news Director -WBAI/Pacifica Radio - New York City (99.5-FM)
