We The Students....

ATTN: Non-Smokers - This Effects You Too!!!

In December 1999 the OTC Board of Trustees passed a Tobacco Free Campus policy which became effective August 1, 2003.

Now we are being told this policy is being extended to include publicly owned property that is within the "vicinity" of the OTC Campus. Thats right, if the OTC Police can "SEE" you smoking, its grounds for a fine. They don't care whose property your standing on anymore. No more smoking in the street. No more smoking between classes period.

I am a reasonable person and I respected the anti-tobacco policy by not smoking on school property. In fact, so far this semester I have seen less than 10 students consuming tobacco and I attend class 5 days a week. This is not a big problem and most smokers respect the policy of keeping their habit from imposing on another student.

Now they are saying they don't even want to see you smoking? Somehow the sight of a cigarette in my mouth is going to be detrimental to Ty Patterson's health?

What's next? No candy on campus, because it makes you gain weight? Why don't we change all the soda machines to only supply "diet cola" and water, since we are so concerned about the student bodies health..

What happens when Ty Patterson wakes up and realizes that he hates the color red? Will he ban that too?

It's time to stop this nonsense and make a stand. Please show your support that this is wrong!
