| 53 | Murlan Powell | I fully understand and support the need for further review of the location of this rest area. I travel quite a bit and utlize rest areas all over the country, yet I would not want to be doing so at the expense of local residents and communities.
If there is no way to change the proposed site, I would hope that ODOT, or the proper government entity, address the compensation/restitution issue with the affected residents. It seems extremely unfair that they be penalized in order to provide an area for travelers to spend a few moments of their time.
I respect the efforts of all parties and firmy believe that a suitable compromise may be reached in this matter.
Thank you for your time and understanding. |
| 54 | Will Wilkinson | Please reconsider. |
| 55 | Lauren Taylor | As a resident of Ashland, I am appalled that you would move forward with this plan without first consulting and compensating impacted howeowners.
Please remedy this situation by mitigating the environmental impacts of this project and adequately compensating homeowners for their attendant losses, both economic and intangible. |

| 57 | David Lorenz Winston | Surely there are more and better options for a rest stop along I-5 in this vicinity. I urge you to keep looking. |
| 58 | Anonymous | Ms. Miranda and others deserve compensation, at least, IF you insist on going forward with your development plans that will destroy the environment of her home. Do the right thing here. Have a conscience. Have a heart! |

| 60 | Anonymous | I am very concerned that Sharon Miranda's property next to I-5 will be negatively affected by the proposed tourist welcome center. Here is a homeowner that bought her house on over 6/10ths an acre, and has been living peacefully, improving the property. The access road to the welcome center will cut off the small buffer strip that now exists between her home and the freeway. How can the county make decisions that will cause a home to loose value and at the same time subject a resident to lack of privacy, increasing noise and bright lighting? Sharon deserves to be reimbursed for this negative impact upon her home, or best would be to find a better option for placement of the welcome center. |
| 61 | Susan Mandel | Re: file#: LRP2007-00008
This project is not in the best interest of the nearby properties (including 488 Crowson Rd., the community at large and the negative environmental impact on the land and water. Also, please refer to studies done regarding the high rate of crime that these kind of projects bring into the equation which negatively impact our citizens.
Please consider viable alternatives to mitigate these negative impacts! I am a concerned citizen and look forward to community meetings regarding this project. |
| 62 | Lenn Snyder | This is another example of government running rough shod over the individual without offering adequate compensation for the needs of the individual. |
| 63 | Avram Novick | It seems very clear that ODOT should be fully indemnifying land owners who are negatively affected by the propsed tourist welcome center in Ashland. It is hard to understand why this is not happening automatically and without hesitation.
It is highly inapproriate and arrogant for government agencies to walk all over the rights of citizens. This is outrageous behavior. |

| 65 | dinah | As a fellow property owner in Ashland, Oregon, I support Sharon Miranda's request for an alternative site to be sought by ODOT. If they proceed, I support all homeowners impacted by the tourist welcome center be full compensated for every damage inflicted upon them.
Very sincerely,

| 67 | Jim Bowne | Why not re-open the rest area further up the mountain which worked fine...? |

| 70 | Timothy Nobles | Please consider re-activating the old rest area with a ban on trucks. |

| 75 | Benjamin Grunde | The rest area in Talent is sufficient, I think. |
| 76 | Sharon Lawrence | Being a new resident to Ashland I would really like to see less impact on residents in the community. Our community is what Ashland is about, NOT more and more and more growth. |
| 77 | Stefan Windroth | |
| 78 | candace michael | Rest areas attract the criminal element; i.e., drug dealers, vagrants, petty thieves and worse (as testified to by an OSP officer quoted in the Ashland Daily Tidings). The proposed site is very close to a large housing development with families and children. The rest area will provide a hangout for these undesirables (and possibly for bored teenagers?). The plan is to keep semi's out. Who's going to enforce that rule? In addition to the impact on property values, potential for crime, noise and light pollution, a rest area belongs between population areas where there are no facilities available, making the location of this one inexplicable and potentially dangerous. |
| 79 | Gwendolyn Terra Stallings | |
| 80 | Christopher Byrne | Thank you for considering the citizens of Oregon that will be negatively affected by this proposal. |
| 81 | Susan Menanno | |
| 82 | Kate McCabe | I feel very strongly concerned regarding this addition of the welcome center and rest area. This needs to be moved further out of the surrounding area of the City of Ashland. Consider this if it were happening near your home.
Thank you, Kate McCabe |
| 83 | Doug Fergus | I SINCERELY beleive that the proposed location for a rest area is NOT a good area; and MUST NOT be located there.
First of all, there is NOTHING wrong with the Talent rest area!!!
There are better locations if you MUST have a new rest area. Near (north of) the Valley View exit on/off ramps should be ok.
Thanks, Doug Fergus |

| 85 | merrily miller | I oppose the rest area being built at this site and would support it near weigh station or exit #19 |

| 88 | Chad Derosier | i oppose the rest-stop. it is a waste of money and resources and will keep people out of town. |
| 89 | Debra Swarzman | If there's no way to change your plans, then the residents must be well compensated...this is only Just!!! |
| 90 | Anonymous | I believe that a rest area should be sited away from a residential area. With a town hosting the amenities of Ashland, there's little need for a rest area on our doorstep. |

| 94 | Carolyn R. Shaffer | ODOT and county officials might be pleasantly surprised by the mutually beneficial outcomes of negotiating with Sharon Miranda. If Sharon would receive reasonable compensation for the serious impact on her property and property values caused by the tourist complex, ODOT and the county would receive the priceless gift of goodwill plus significant long-run cost savings. It costs money to hold hearings and otherwise deal with citizens' objections to projects. Fair compensation agreed to now would reduce the need to keep pouring money into staff time and public relations efforts related to this issue.
I know Sharon Miranda. She is eminently fair and reasonable in her dealings with people and organizations, and she has dedicated her life to serving the common good.
So take a chance and work with her. Believe me, if she felt that she had been dealt with fairly, she would spread this good news about ODOT and Jackson County far and wide. All parties would benefit. You simply can't buy that kind of goodwill and good publicity. |
