The petition

Earlier this month, the Governor delivered his annual Budget Address, while his budget proposal is nothing short of ambitious – providing health insurance to every individual, pouring much needed dollars into an already severely underfunded pension system – the Governor’s proposed Gross Receipts Tax (GRT) on businesses is cause for serious concern, especially for Illinois families.

The concept of a GRT is deceptively simple. The GRT would be imposed on every transaction that a business makes rather than on their profit, which has serious implications for businesses and Illinois consumers.

Unlike, businesses that are able to pass on the additional costs that this tax will impose, consumers and their families will be forced to absorb all of the costs associated with the GRT.

I encourage you to join me in telling the Governor that a GRT is not wanted in Illinois!
