Nick Tiley | This scheme won't help traffic issues but will unfairly penalise residents of Cambridge
Stephen Mays | Perhaps those "responsible" individuals should employ the common sense that got them in to office in the first place.

Anonymous | Congestion is undoubtedly a problem, but I do not see that there are sufficient viable alternatives to make this anything other than a tax.
Stephen robinson | We should not have to pay to leave the city. Please go ahead with a congestion charge but do not levy it against residence of the city - it is after all our city and you are supposed to represent us (Well probably not for much longer at this rate!).

Anonymous | This is just another form of tax hiding behind so-called "Green" credentials. It will hit the poorest hardest.

Wendy Taylor | The cost of buses needs to be much cheaper within the city to encourage use. The cost for one person is £1.60 (one way) to the town centre, so for a family very expensive. I use a bicycle as much as possible.
| 67 | j davis | this is a dreadful idea , the solution is to bus school children to school. in the school holidays there is no congestion
other countries bus children to school or they walk or cycle, this includes private school children busing them to school would cost the council less than less than educating them if they were state schools whicjh of course they would otherwise be.
cambridge is already expensive to live in |
Claire Hutchinson | I work in Newmarket, there is no convenient public transport from Chesterton to Newmarket, and congestion charging will make it difficult for me to afford to continue in my job.
Ciro | road tax already in place, stop additional tax
Anonymous | No congestion charge in Cambridge. This has not been fully thought out by the council - it just won't work.

Kirsty Carmichael | Resident's should not have to pay the congestion charge to drive out of the City. Congestion charging will only penalise the poorer resident's of the City.
Anonymous | This is outragous!!! I can't afford to pay any more money for transport. It would be like being a prisoner in my own home.
Zosia Krasodomska-Jones |
Alix Cork | I took the bus this morning to work from Kings Hedges - the journey took me an hour. If the council want us to use public transport, they need to come up with a solution that does not take 2 hours out of my working day (the bus home is INEVITABLY overcrowded and late). With travel times like this, it would be easier for me to commute to London...

Andy Gow | Add bus lanes & improve cycle facilities and so improve people's lives, rather than adding the congestion fine and causing people massive hassles! What were you thinking, Cambridge is not a city of 12 million people.

It would be nice to have a outline of plans for providing public transports than can meet the needs of parents and commuters. What about also having decent bus shelters ? What about transport of goods and delivery of weekly shopping lists...this is really put the cart before the horses... |

Anonymous | We DO NOT have the infrastructure in place for travellers; like London with the underground tube system or enough reliable / cheap buses in and out of Cambridge and the surrounding areas! It is too expensive / too slow and too unreliable!
Peter Clifton | Just awful that the council could get away with this without proper PRIOR consultation. We must not let them, by any legal means necessary.
ANGELA HARRITY | I think the congestion charge should apply to the perimeter road of people just coming into Cambridge, this will encourage people to use the park and ride. You only have to look at these roads between 7.30-9.00 to see how many cars are coming into the city and parking in residential roads
Melford John |
John Beasley | The so-called "congestion charge" is nothing whatsoever to do with reducing congestion - it is just yet another very easy way to raise tax at the expense of local residents and businesses. A congestion charge will make it less attractive to move to Cambridge for work and will lead to yet more jobs leaving the City for more business-friendly locations.
