9621 BRIAN PRICEOn July 4th, 1946 the 442nd RCT sailed in on the SS Wilson Victory into New York harbor, they were greeted by a cheering crowd of friends, family, and Americans. On July 15th, 1946 a reception was held in Washington, D.C. to honor the Japanese American heroes. Under a bucketing summer rain, President Truman pinned the Presidential Unit Citation on the 100/442nd RCT colors. In so few words, President Truman described an accomplishment unforeseen by the soldiers and the public alike. “You fought not only the enemy, but you fought prejudice-and you have won.” President Truman These fourteen noble words summed up a semi-succession of the war the Japanese Americans were fighting in their home land. The 442nd proved their loyalty, beat down racism, and gained respect for themselves and their fellow Americans.
9622 Darrell ShimamotoThese men showed us what it means to be a true American. In the midst of racial tensions they fought and died for their country and never turned their backs on the the country they loved even though they and their families had been betrayed by their country by being forcefully relocated into internment camps on the premise that they may be a threat. Most lost everything except what they could carry in a suitcase or two. These men are true Americans.

9634 Joycelyn LauMy father, who is now deceasd, was a member of the 100th Battalion. It would be a great honor to his memory to have this commemorative stamp. Let's get it done while there are still veterans of the 100th/442 still alive!
