School Board Members are elected by the PEOPLE to appoint a Director of Schools and jointly oversee the education of our students. Although the Director of Schools is not elected by the PEOPLE, he reports to the Board. The Board is to report to the PEOPLE.
Our system has gotten confused. The Director of Schools makes decisions, the Board agrees and neither take in to account or ask if that is what the PEOPLE who elected them want.
Many decisions are not made in the best interest of the students. Many times they have been made hastily and out of anger. In the end, the students are hurt.
We would like to see changes made.
1. Director of Schools to be elected by the PEOPLE.
2. Director of Schools term limited to 2 years.
3. School Board Meetings are to be open to the public and any one addressing the Board is to be given sufficient time to present their concerns. Currently, the Board only allows 5 minutes.
4. At least one non-voting student from each high school be allowed to sit on the Board to bring concerns from the schools and to be involved in solution process. |
