| 51 | Cortlandt | Schult | FL | US | As a resident of Florida and a summer residient & property owner of N.Y(LakeGeorge)I am aware of the property tax situation in both states. As you may or may not know there is a tax revolt going on in Florida as well. The problem here is similar to that in N.Y. REAL ESTATE TAXES GONE CRAZY. In Florida non residents can not claim a homestead exemption and their assessments are NOT limited to the 3% annual increase but are reassessed annually based on the current market value. Thus you end up with two similar properties with significantly different tax bills. The same thing is true in N.Y. State where a non-resident property owner can not claim a Star or any other exemption available to a resident property owner.
A solution to this problem would be for the states to enact legislation that treated ALL property owners the same IF the states the property were located in agreed to a reciprocal agreement similar to what is presently done when you move from one state to another and have to register your car, boat aircraft etc. |

| 62 | Anonymous | Anonymous | NY | US | We are struggling with high taxes and a non responsive school board. Local Sch Prop Tax has increased these past four years at close to 7.5% on average, the last two years at a rate of 8%, and this year 8.5%. It has to end. Add in property reassessments and therein lies a major problem. I retired 19 years ago with an adequate pension. No COL increases, inflation and out of control school taxes have decimiated the purchasing power. Voting no to school budgets is a waste of time. Voter apathy is apparent when 500 out of 3000 eligible to vote bother to cast a ballot. the district employs 300, yes votes are normally 325 (average), no votes 150 to 175. One cannot overcome those working in the district voting yes to whatever increase the BOE endorses. |

| 76 | John | Eddy | NY | | Property taxes are to High as indicated by the Govenor as being 79% higher than other states. Perhapes the state should take over teacher negociated salaries like they do for Corrections and Mental Health. Also buying school buses when old buses have around 120,000 miles is not cost effective. |
