michael kennyit,s just another name for "stealth Tax" we already pay enough to drive on the roads as it is.I suspect the congestion charge will simply be to fund the guided bus scheme which looks a loser from the word go.
David GrantIf the council want us to use public transport instead of our cars to commute into Cambridge why are all the Park & Ride sites within the congestion zone. Do they think we will pay £5 to drive to a Park and Ride and then pay to get on a bus?

PETER FREEMANI FIND IT IS WRONG TO CHARGE RESIDENTS WHO LIVE IN CAMBRIDGE. WE HAVE LIVED HERE ALL OUR LIVES SUPPORTING CAMBRIDGE, CAN'T MOVE OUT OF CITY, YET YOU ARE VICTIMIZING US .YOU WILL END UP WITH A DEAD CITY.

Anthony CookeThe council introduces rising bollards to "reduce" traffic congestion (how does that work?) funnelling the traffic onto a small number of roads causing congestion and then wants to charge people for a problem they have exacerbated. Major road works on three A14 roundabouts for months and now Lang Raod and Oakington Raod closed for month. Misguided bus! Bus station smack in the centre of town when there was ample room to move it to the Train Station area. Ludicrous bus lanes (Newmarket road - what a joke). Very poor public transprot system. My suggestion is we DO NOT vote Shona Johnson back onto the council next time!!!
AnonymousI am in the building trade. How many customers are going to like another "extra" on their bill. Or would you like that early knock on the door. I also doubt you would want us working from 10.00 to 19.00 (8 hour day). I know i would not welcome it!

Richard CulpanPut cheap and reliable public transport in place first, THEN consider road pricing schemes once there's a satisfactory alternative to the car

AnonymousThe car parking fees in cambridge are already well over other towns in the south. Congestion fees in cambridge would result in shoppers going to neighbouring towns. I would be one of them.
AnonymousWould consider relocating my job if this came into force

Nigel JohnsonI believe that congestion charges will lead to the slow destruction of Cambridge as companies slowly move outside the charge area. If the charge is implemented I will be forced to give up my job in Cambridge, unless my company agrees to pay the charge. Given the number of largely empty park and ride buses I see travelling around the town, I would be very interested to know the true figures for the number of passengers carried per bus mile travelled. I suspect that public transport is not as green as we encouraged to believe.

Alan TaylorAt least allow the public to vote on this crazy proposal. That's what democracy is supposed to be about.

Robin HarrisLet there be a democratic vote on this issue with the politicians accepting the peoples choice.
Terry HudsonLet the councillors lead the way, by getting rid of their cars and use bus's and cycling as their only mode of transport.

Dawn CollinsI work to pay my way and yet that obviously isn't enough now as I am going to be taxed to come to work - why bother working?

AnonymousCreate enforced no-stopping zones (e.g. Trumpington Road which gets choked with school traffic) during rush hours. Arrange for school buses to run from Park & Ride sites. Introduce one-way traffic at peak times through the current bollard restricted roads.

Alan RichardsonI am the Deputy Chief Executive of Cambridge Consultants. I expect this measure to be very detrimental to Cambirdge business: * Housing in Cambs is so expensive that new recruits tend to live out of the city in villages very poor public transport to Cambridge and so growing the busines will become even more difficult * Many of our clients come to CC by road and the extra bureaucracy and inconvenience and cost will encourage clients to go tobusinesses without this encumbrance
Paul KynastonAbsolutely ridiculous idea. Will drive everyone out of Cambridge. We pay enough on road tax and petrol as it is.

LILYBOOIT'S RIDICULOUS TO PAY A CONGESTION CHARGE WHEN I NEVER DRIVE TO THE CITY CENTRE. I LIVE IN GIRTON AND WORK IN BAR HILL ! I'M AGREE TO STOP CARS GOING TO THE CITY CENTRE BUT THE AREA SHOULD BE SMALLER AND NOT ALL THE CITY. IT'S A JOKE TO INCLUDE THE PARK AND RIDE ! ! !

AnonymousHow come the Cowley Road Park and Ride system is inside the Congestion charge zone?? And there needs to be a good direct link from the Station to the Science park.

A C RobertsI think this would not help business in cambridge that already need more trade and not a reason for them to go elswhere, car parks are already expensive in cambridge and I do not think people should be made to keep paying out more money when wages are below inflation for the majority, lets have a public transport system that works as many other countries have ,that is utilised because it is affordable and works. I have been to such placesas Prague,Krakov and Budapest and they manage it so why can we not.

AnonymousI work at Cambridge consultants in the science park and my working hours are between 9-5:30pm. I travel everyday from Thetford to Cambridge and this costs a lot of time and money and hence the introduction of congestion charges will add more cost which I am completely against it.
