Pauline Borkon | Our libraries are often the ONLY thing standing between a child and the harsh world outside his or her home! How can we take that away?!
Stephanie Bungard | As a member of the public education community of Philadelphia, I witness firsthand the benefit of our libraries to our children. It is the children who live in the neighborhoods that most sorely need their libraries who will suffer as a result of these closures.

Jane Biberman | You must keep libraries open.
Rita Addessa | In contrast to destroying public libraries and other crucial public services, city officials could generate desperately needed revenue by challenging the root causes of the problem, e.g. federal, state and local governments’ largesse, respectively, to the military, to private corporations and speculators, to the rich and the superrich, as well as to large tax-exempt “not-for-profit” institutions and foundations.

Rita Urwitz | What a travesty. Michael Nutter fought resuction of library hours on his quest to be Mayor. As Mayor he is closing the branches forever. Mayor Nutter is taking the City in the wrong direction. For the hope of our children and the safety of our seniors, the branches must remain open and fully functional.
Paula Paul | The libraries are one of the few functional institutions in our communities that offer safety, education, job support, access to technology , across the ages-they are the glue , the heart pumping constructive energy into our neighborhoods that are sorely lacking in functioning resources. Collectively we can find a way to keep them all open and must-we cannot possibly turn on our children in this way.....we have already taken away school libraries, music, art....and I could go on. We can keep them open and raise the funds-our collective will and mind wants to and can do this. Our city must make this possible.

Thank you. |

JoAnn Seaver | Our children are underserved in our schools, many of which have no libraries. Many of our citizens depend on libraries and they are hubs of our neighborhoods. For the good of our communities and for promoting life long learning, libraries are an essential service.
Richard Kirk | These libraries must be kept open, closing them is NOT an option. All people of good conscience would gladly pay more taxes to keep them open.

Julia Mann | I am surprised that the Nutter administration is being so uncharacteristically short-sighted. I truly believe that in the long run, the citizens of Philadelphia, working with the administration, will find a way to keep ALL the libraries open. Closing them is NOT an option for a forward looking city like ours. I believe Mayor Nutter and his people will soon realize they made a mistake (it happens), and will work with the communities to keep library doors unlocked. Permanently.

Kate Pourshariati | Aside from everything else, libraries are one of the few visibly positive forces that the average taxpayer is aware of. There are so many other thankless things that taxes go for, which go unnoticed, but as a public relations effort to attract rather than repel people in making the choice to live here, libraries are IT... As one budget measure, consider getting the Foundation of the FLP to fork over the fines that we all pay to the FLP system as direct budget.
