The Education Equality Initiative’s goal is to close the gap for ethnic minorities in the state of Michigan in regards to the access, support and quality of higher education. In the state of Michigan the standards that affirmative action has guaranteed minorities is under attack by the Michigan Civil Rights Initiative. If the Education Equality Initiative is passed all 15 public universities in Michigan will have to have a 10% ethnic minority representation on campus. This is not about quotas and this is not about special rights. This initiative is designed to promote equal opportunity for minority and non-minority students. If the Affirmative Action proposal is passed in November of 2006 there will be a dramatic backlash for minority populations in Michigan. In order for our communities to be diverse we need to start allowing diverse individuals a fair chance in higher education. Institutions of higher education need an atmosphere of diversity to be truly successful; these steps will ensure a beneficial learning environment for minority and non-minority students. Please sign this petition to support equal education for all students. |
