*Special Note* Please keep all the ethnic stuff out of your comments, that's missing the point. No matter who you are, it's more about us as a group wanting basic dignity and less about dissatisfaction with each other's culture. The issue with the song is not that it’s rap and most of the fan base consists of baby boomers from Long Island, but that it's simply a stupid song. That being said read on...
As a Mets fan, I'm truly embarrassed by this horrible excuse for a song the Mets have anointed the "song of 2006". Aside from the embarrassingly bad lyrics, cheesy dated "Vanilla Ice" style music and lack of melody.. it's stereotyping the team as tasteless, hipless, and classless. In a word.. it's just stupid.
Why do the Mets fans always need to suffer at the hands of out of touch corporate management? This song is the microcosm of a greater issue. It's music that rich white men think their stupid sheep want to hear.
It's as out of touch as the idiots who bought time on SNY and chose to run Derek Jeter commercials every other inning on a Mets network.
It's as classless as the salesmen who sold time on SNY to run depressing cancer commercials relentlessly.
It's as moronic as McDonalds looking at the SNY demographic and thinking their commercial with two morons screaming at each other over food will attract anyone who can afford cable.
It's as clueless as SNY starting a Mets station who's Mets coverage outside of games consists of a 13 year old girl talking to David Wright again and again and promos during Jets coverage in April.
The only thing they got right so far are the games themselves which are great.
Can we have dignity for once?? We are having a GREAT season, maybe our best since 1986. Can we enjoy it and also not have to defend ourselves again and again for our management's lack of class.
STOP THE SONG I SAY! Who's with me??? |
