AnonymousAichi-ken, JapanMy husband and I have visited Maui in summer for 9 years in a row with our windsurfing friends. My husband and I have visited Maui in summer for 9 years in a row with our windsurfing friends. Since we are a big group and want to enjoy the local atmosphere, vacation rentals have been the best place to stay at for us. Please don' t make it too difficult for us to enjoy the nice and cozy neighborhood while we are on Maui.
AnonymousStockholm SwedenI thought the US was supposed to be the land of freedom, entrepreneurship and minimal red tape. Please show me that I'm not totally wrong.

Peter WilsonKulaWe built our large home on 2 acres in Kula as we have a large family and we wanted some extra income from vacation renters to help us better cope with the high cost of living on Maui as we are retired and have limited income.

April NimsPaiaMaui County created and courted TVRs to lure FITs( free independent traveler) for the betterment of the community as a whole, and for Maui's future econmic health and well being. The Kapakai approach in threatening and discriminating against the people who provided the much needed and desired alternitive accomidations for these visitors is shameful and a terrible legacy for this administration to turn around and bite, after all the many promises made not to, the many hands that feed many people in our small towns and communities. Countless people on Maui made commitments and planned their futures based upon verbal and written commitments made by the county that they were working toward creating a new draft ordinance to provide a reasonable permit process. The County needs to honor their own words, and until a workable, resonable process is in place they should allow tax paying, non impact, TVRs to continue in providing the eco, and free independent visitor the wonderful experience they want of staying on Maui, not in a hotel room.

Sunny JordanMakawaoPlease consider small ag properties that are unable to grow ag because of topography & sub-standard soil. Also consider those that do not have neighbors and whose owners live on the property. Mahalo
Bob FlintMakawaoHave you considered the visitor who will not come to Maui if they are forced to stay in a Hotel? Does Maui County want to be viewed by the world as backwards? Make reasonable guidelines and move forward.
Mr/Mrs David Alpertwe are owners of a home in: Wailea Kialoawe know the property belonging to Sunny & Bob. It has very little flat area; surrounding is rocky, high walled and leaves the flats in a bowl-like location. There is onsite parking for their guests and no immediate neighbors. Please, reconsider their petition for a B&B.
sharlee dieguezWaikapuPlease regulate and support these small businesses.

karen jenningshaikuthere are several vacation rentals on my street. they are clean and pretty, the people who stay there are friendly, quiet and inconspicuous, no extra cars are on the street, and the visitors are grateful to have a "real maui" experience with local residents. i think all of them patronize hotel restaurants and gift shops, etc, and most of them spend a few days at a hotel as their "splurge". one of them would come here if their only option was a hotel. not only the expense, but they want o have a more intimate and country experience. people with vacation rentals are able to work at home, provide jobs in their neighborhood, and stay on their land in the face of rising taxes, gas, or changes in lifestyle (retirement, elderly who would like to remain at home, mom's with young kids, etc. vacation rentals are welcomed all over the united staqtes. what's wrong with maui that we have criminalized the very hospitality that hawaii is famous for? this situation must be solved in favor of our neighbors and friends who are perpetuating the spirit of aloha in a very immediate way! aloha pumehana, karen jennings, haiku

AnonymousKula, HII don't want to see Maui vacation Rentals closed and B&B's on Maui shut down. There is a vital need here for this type of accommodation. We will lose many of our destination tourists by doing this and we will be shooting ourselves in the foot in the tourism industry.

AnonymousKiheiThis sounds like big business (hotels) Pulling strings in Maui County.
Thomas MulhernLahainaIt is a disgrace that this mayor and administrations only solution is to hurrt the very people they represent...I have lived upcountry and send guests to The star outlook who has attempted to become legal for years as have so many others....The government is the problem...the mayor I now regret voting for is the problem...You all are a disgrace for your lack of solution orientation and lack of vision...feels like maybe big business has gotten a hold of you all.....Thomas Mulhern
Victoria CheromckaWailukuA reasonable and well regulated program is needed. Visitors deserve this choice!
Vaughn Paul ManleyHaikuVacation rentals need to be allowed to continue to operate. Their the heart of tourism on Maui!!!

Jonathan MannMakawaoI agree, regulate, don't ban B&B's and vacation rentals.
Betty MannMakawaoGet some regulations in place this year. Look at The Big Island and Kauai for examples or just copy theirs!
AnonymousHaikuVacation rentals offer visitors an unique opportunity and choice to experience our island lifestyle up close and personal. Reasonable regulations are fine and complaints should be addressed promptly. There are only a handful of problem visitors and they should be warned and reminded of the special accomodations they are staying at. The tax revenue issue is huge and the country should wake up and see the light about that matter. Our county is going to lose in a big way and will see that in numbers in the next fiscal quarter.

AnonymousUlupalakuaWe Demand; Equal protection under the law...It is simply not right to single out one group.. What about the Rest of the People who are renting illegaly. Why has nothing ever been done till now. Who is contributing to whose campaign fund ? Alan Arakawa was right .

tracey sevenichhaikuWhat an issue. But in all fairness / regulate & make it easier for permits. Perhaps no permit for properties where the legal owner is not in residence.
AnonymousKiheiI find the county's approach to shuting down Vacation rentals on Maui to be quite shocking. I hope they come to their senses!

Keith & Charlene EcheverriKiheiWe do not operate a short term rental but seek them out when traveling. Our experiences have always been positive. Perhaps a cap on the number operating in any particular residential area would make sense.
ranjanamakawaothis is sheer insanity....to deny that maui is the #1 vacation destination in the world! what about all of the jobs and people island wide who benefit from vacation rentals. have they thought about unemployment? be realistic.
