Dear Mayor Tavares, Maui County Council Members and Planning Officers:

As a Maui resident, I am disappointed to learn that the County of Maui is closing down Bed and Breakfast and Vacation Rental Homes because they are not permitted outside of urban, hotel and business-zoned areas. Up until now the County has allowed, and encouraged, the development of these businesses because it is a worldwide trend and benefits our local economy. But outdated and burdensome regulations have made it impossible for more than a handful of people to obtain permits to operate. Before you put families out of business, hurt our local economy, and lose valuable tax revenue, please adopt reasonable regulations and give people an opportunity to comply with them. Thank you.
