It is time we let our politicians know that we don't need them to decide when we need to be home. A 1:00 am bar closing time encourages rapid overconsumption, and makes our streets dangerous by putting all of the bar patrons out on the road at the same time. Our police and businesses such as taxi companies and restaurants are overwhelmed by the large number of people forced into the streets at bar close. Also, we lose millions of dollars in tax revenue each year from the short bar hours. Increased alcohol sales would greatly reduce budget deficits in many communities. In addition, we will be passed by over and over again for major events and conventions due to the lack of entertainment. It is time we let our politicians know that we are sick of them deciding what is best for us. We are all adults and we don't need a law telling us what time we need to be in bed. We demand that it should be up to the individual establishment owner what time they close. |
