The first time around,19 years ago,too much time had passed before I was diagnosed and even though I was treated, the disease progressed into fibromyalgia, a lifelong condition I still suffer with today. It is now 2008 and I began experiencing the same symptoms of Lyme and went to the doctor's office. The test came back negative once again. After a confirmation that this was not rheumatoid arthritis, the doctor thankfully put me on a regime of antibiotics for 3 weeks. After a week, the symptoms started to subside, I am still undergoing treatment. Something has to be done to improve the accuracy of the testing. This is unacceptable and discouraging to know virtually no progress has been made in the last twenty years!!! We need to be proactive to get Congress to pass legislation to provide more funds to investigate research and improve testing PERIOD! Too many people are suffering debilitating lifelong illnesses as a result. |
