We believe that U.S. Senator Blanche Lincoln of Arkansas would be the optimal presidential candidate to receive the Democratic Party's nomination in 2008. While she is a loyal Democrat, Senator Lincoln embodies the independence and inclusiveness to appeal to a broad range of voters beyond the Democratic Party itself.
Although she would be a centrist candidate with a moderate record, Lincoln is strongly committed to core issues that affect our country: agriculture, early-term abortion rights, gun ownership rights, hunger awareness, tax cuts for the working-class and middle-class, planning for the long-term strength of Social Security, caring for our senior citizens, and the welfare of children. Her legislative record reflects this.
Blanche Lincoln understands the values of and concerns shared by Middle America. She understands that issues cannot be solved when controlled by the Far Left or the Far Right, but only when multiple sides are included in the public dialogue.
Lincoln, the daughter of a farm family who was raised during the middle of desegregation, will provide a strong voice for rural voters who have often found themselves feeling left behind in the national discussion. She is likeable, pragmatic, an excellent speaker, and has stood up for what she believes in.
We believe that Blanche Lincoln has the necessary leadership skills to regain America's integrity and build trust with our fractured alliances overseas. Her ability to work well with colleagues in her own party as well as across the political aisle - - through compromise and constructive dialogue - - would bring a refreshing change to the nasty political environment of Washington D.C.
