| 163 | Richard Bradley | If her religous values are so strong, she should not even be doing registery "weddings" for heterosexual couples, as these have no religous basis. Therefore these should have gone against her "beliefs". In terms of civil legalities therefore, she should not be allowed to "opt" out of gay civil partnerships. The council will hopefully have lawyers who cna argue the point home in the correct legal sense, as the legislation was intended. In effect, she was right to be disciplined for not following HER legal and employed duties. |

If this person sees a clash of religious belief with their job, then she should consider her position and do the honourable thng by resigning. She cannot pick and choose who she wants to conduct registrar duties for. |

Purely on the basis of employee law; was this woman in this position prior to the instigation of the civil partnership legislation; if so perhaps this element was not reflected in her job description and as such she was not in contravention of the law? It seems that the human rights act was used to support her claim; but surely the same article used to support her claim could equally be used to negate it…… |
