155 christopherThis woman is not observing a law of this land. If she refuses to observe a law, she should be sacked with no compensation. Heterosexuals need to be constantly reminded that they are not squeaky clean and should all read this :- http://www.boxturtlebulletin.com/Articles/000,015.pdf

163 Richard BradleyIf her religous values are so strong, she should not even be doing registery "weddings" for heterosexual couples, as these have no religous basis. Therefore these should have gone against her "beliefs". In terms of civil legalities therefore, she should not be allowed to "opt" out of gay civil partnerships. The council will hopefully have lawyers who cna argue the point home in the correct legal sense, as the legislation was intended. In effect, she was right to be disciplined for not following HER legal and employed duties.

183 Tracey SmithPeople should leave their religious beliefs at home when undertaking their job of work within the laws of the land. If this person sees a clash of religious belief with their job, then she should consider her position and do the honourable thng by resigning. She cannot pick and choose who she wants to conduct registrar duties for.

188 AnonymousI find the outcome of this enquiry interesting, and wonder at the foundations of the legal decision? Purely on the basis of employee law; was this woman in this position prior to the instigation of the civil partnership legislation; if so perhaps this element was not reflected in her job description and as such she was not in contravention of the law? It seems that the human rights act was used to support her claim; but surely the same article used to support her claim could equally be used to negate it……
