Tony Lewty | Leith has such a diverse history that it needs a museum to display the changes

Robbie Bushe | I have recently returned to Leith after many years away. I am amazed by how it has changed and I have started to read about the history to inform a new series of paintings i am working on.
Archie Cairns | If any town in Scotland deserves it's own Museum Leith must rank high on that list. Kings and Queens have graced it's Quay's. The town has a long history. It provided a home to Irish migrants fleeing famine. An army Garrison, Merchants,Shipbuilding,Gas Lighting and Rope Works, Distillieries, Meal & Flourmills, a Stock Exchange the list of reasons in favour is endless.....
Heidi Oguntke | Leith is a diverse community with a wealth of history and geography that deserves to be permanently celebrated and researched via its own museum. I support it whole heartedly!
Alan Ness |
Alice Lauder | This museum is long overdue. Leith has a rich history and has been an important town for a very long time. The people of Leith, who made Leith, should be remembered for ever.
Andrew Grant | The changes wrought throughout Leith and its past should be publicly dispalayed. The former customs House would be an ideal location in the heart of what was / is Leith.

Iain Nicolson | Leith's fascinating social and economic history has been changing over many decades. There have been many changes down through the years that have taken away much of its wonderful character and a museum would help record that past and also the part the port has played in Edinburgh's prosperity.

Maria Bell | This is a really worthwhile pursuit - it would be a huge loss if the history of Leith were to become overwritten by development over the last 20 years. I have lived in The Shore area during that time and have witnessed many of these changes. It would be wonderful for a museum to provide visitors and residents with the historic perspective they should have. I am sure local people would have much to contribute too - from living history commentaries to objects and photos. Taxi drivers are a mine of information too...I often have conversations with them about old Leith.
H Summers | Yes I think it is time leith had its own museum like what Newhaven had, now that has been closed thanks to Leith Ports we no longer have one lets go for them.
Dr Brian Thomson | As a genealogist for Scots Family ancestry service living and working in Leith, I know how significant the Port was in the family history of so many people living elsewhere, not just in Scotland and England, but in North America, Australia, New Zealand , Chile etc. I believe a Museum for Leith would be popular worldwide, and could gain from emigrant's stories .

Rory Vereker | This would be a valuable resource for members of the public to discover some of the fascinating history of the area and appreciate how things have changed.
Anonymous | We need a museum in Leith which has so rich a history.

Kenneth Hanley | This is a very worthy cause and I am very happy to have my name added to the Petition, Good Luck and keep up the good work. Slainte Ken Hanley. S.T.G.A. Blue Badge Guide
Pam Wells | This worthwhile petition should be well supported.

Sue Casely | I am a Scottish Tourist guide who has guided people round this fascinating town. There is so much history which is unknown or ignored. With so many cruise ships coming into the port it would complement other attractions such as Britannia
Bruce Cochran |
Thomas Crocket | Although I am not a resident of Leith, my family roots are there as far back as at least 1702. The past of this historic Scottish port merits its own museum.

J MacDonald | Scottish history is vitally important, for Scots and visitors alike. A well-planned, funded and staffed museum can be a great boost to tourism, and so to the economoy of the area. Let's support it!

Dee Murray | I can't believe there is no museum dedicated to this old and historic port.
Helena Connelly | Leith has a distinct history which should be recorded and displayed for future generations. Although now a part of Edinburgh it is important that its unique history is available for all.
