In today’s society there are far too many minorities getting unfair treatment in the legal system. This only proves that racism is alive and well in the United States of America. This is unacceptable. We as, citizens of this great nation, demand there be something done about outrageous rulings and sentencing in our courtrooms that obviously center on the color of the defendant’s skin. Judges and/or other members of our justice system, who abuse our legal system to further their own discriminatory, racist, and/or otherwise prejudice views, are to be relieved of their duties immediately.
An example of a ridiculous and obviously racist ruling is the one of Shaquana Cotton in Paris, Texas. She is a 15 year old African American female who was sentenced to 7 years in prison for pushing a hall monitor. Another young Caucasian female who stood before the same judge before the Cotton case had committed arson to her family’s home and only received probation. Another Caucasian male in the same town with the same judge also received probation for the murder of an elderly black woman and her grandson.
On October 12, 1995, Jonny Gammage, a 31 year-old African American male, was killed after being pulled over while driving the Jaguar of his cousin, Pittsburgh Steelers football player Ray Seals, in a predominately white community. Although police claimed that Gammage initiated the struggle, a tow truck driver said he saw one officer start the fight and the others join in kicking, hitting and clubbing Gammage while he lay on the pavement. The officers were acquitted of all charges.
Our United States Constitution states “All men are created equal” and we feel our justice system is not upholding this truth. We demand that our concerns be dealt with quickly and effectively. Our country depends on it.
Sincerely,
The Concerned Citizens Of The United States Of America
