The petition
In the summer of 2006, construction to the Fred Nichols Campus Centre and Dr. Alvin Woods Building at Wilfrid Laurier University forced many changes to the WLU campus, in the hopes of bettering these essential student buildings. However, a major symbol of WLU lore has had to suffer the ultimate consequence of these construction changes, as the famed WLU Hawk, which lay proudly on the floor of the FNCC in the WLU "Hall Of Fame" section, as a famous part of Laurier for many, many years, is now no more. The famed hawk was removed amidst the confusion of the construction for “traffic concerns,” but eventually got lost in the shuffle, and is, as of now, never set to return to the FNCC. However, we, the proud, yet concerned, students of Wilfrid Laurier University, hope to make it clear to WLU administration and the WLU Students Union that the hawk is much more than a simple decoration, but a major part of the spirit that makes Laurier such a great school community to be a part of. With enough support from the Laurier community, we hope to very soon have this petition in the hands of the powers that be in the WLU Students Union, most notably WLUSU President Allan Cayenne and his Board of Directors, so that the voices of the Laurier community can make it clear that this great part of Wilfrid Laurier University is truly missed, and that we wish to integrate the hawk back into the new and improved WLU students centre, to re-establish itself as a central part of the WLU community for years to come.

UPDATE: there will be a "Bring Back The Hawk" rally THIS FRIDAY, September 22, at 4 PM in the Quad in front of the FNCC! Come on out and show your support!
