Leaf Rapids, Manitoba, Canada is a community in transition. Our needs as a commuity are being ignored by government and universities. We have a right to access a regional centre to deliver university preparation and distance education courses here in Leaf Rapids. We have asked government (both provincial and federal) for local control over low income housing so that our students and their families can live in quality healthy houses. We have asked the universities to provide university courses for students so that they can be prepared to take university courses: either by distance education or by creating a UCN Regional Centre here in Leaf Rapids. As a community, we have rights to accessing low cost quality food. We have asked the provincial government for a Northern Healthy Foods Initiative however they have not responded. We are now building a community garden with volunteers to address the high needs for healthy foods for diabetics. ROB 1W0 |
