59 JennifeJonesSCUSHuman rights activists and relief workers have had access to Haiti for years. The denial of access to any human rights worker, much less one in the company of a US Congresswoman, is a stain on the reputation of the UN presence and on Haiti's interim government. What are we to think about what is taking place in Haiti, when we read about incidents like this?

66 catherinepodojilIt is a well-accepted international requirement that an arrested person has a right to confer with his/her lawyer. Please allow Mr. Kurzban to meet with Mr. Yvon Neptune. Thank you, Catherine Podojil

84 Johanna HarmanCAUSI'm not just signing a petition. I'm watching this case and everything else that has been going on in Haiti since the February 29, 2004 ouster of the democratically elected president. I am truly surprised and disgusted that democratic nations and so called progressive groups have lent their support to the interim government of Haiti, a government that doesn't even bother to pretend to have any respect for basic human rights. Whose "human rights" organization has such a political bias-they're so busy with Aristide and his top officials they fail to notice the blood running in the street and the bodies stacked in the morgue. (See National Lawyers Guild delegation report) And part of the basis for the ouster of Aristide was human rights complaints? Yuk. Shame on you so called democratic nations who have put your money and time into what all knew would be enormous bloodshed and abuse. Why aren't you incredulous? Over 700 political prisoners held without charge for over a year? The murders of thousands of people (yah, I'm ok with the numbers the holocaust deniers prefer, so maybe it's ONLY hundreds and hundreds...? holocaust deniers are kinda creepy, eh?) and no one bothers to count! This is an improvement? This is what marks the path to democracy? Blood? The interim government embraces Jodel Chamblain and calls for justice against Yvon Neptune?-the evidence eaten by wild dogs? What kind of macabre joke is this? People are seriously considering these abuses and blatant ironies as that of rational and democratic actors and are willing to put their money on it? This is the improvement? And then there are those who push the interim government for more violence -they are even more insidious. They have been given too long of a leash and they should be an embarassment. And you stand by this old way of doing business? This archaic indecency? You insist on backing this doomed and ridiculous cult of people in Haiti who possess not one shred of basic human decency and respect for human rights? These are US interests? This is democracy? This is progress? The current path to democracy in Haiti is too bloody to be authentic. You cannot get to democracy thru death squads. Why did the interim government pay off the former military after they murdered so many Aristide supporters? You cannot get to democracy through Duvalier. Baby Doc is now welcome in Haiti and all the old Duvalierists are demanding their old mantle back in Haiti. You cannot get to democracy by shooting unarmed protesters at large rallies, even if you can plant guns on them to justify their killings. You cannot get to democracy by attacking the victims of death squads and pretending that the whole world will not know that what France, Canada, the US and the multinational effort has done and is doing is a cheap shot. A war against those who gather to protest the ouster of Aristide. A sick and twisted offensive on an impoverished and vulnerable population-rather than the disarming of the death squads that control 40% of the countryside? A blatant cheap shot on a significant democratic majority only because you think no one is looking. The worst behavior of all. Behind closed doors behavior. Behind closed doors behavior facilitated by a compliant media. But the truth has been revealed and will be revealed even further and it is ugly. Blood is on the hands of all who have lent this interim government their support. It is an enormous debacle. Only 60,000 people have registered to vote. The elections are already way off schedule. And some want to delay elections again? Hello? Anyone figure out that most Haitians think the interim government and the elections are a sham and don't want to participate? Why not just call it a dictatorship? A dictatorship supported by democratic nations. Release Yvon Neptune from this ridiculous charade immediately. His rights have been violated in too many ways. If you are truly committed to the practical application of democracy in Haiti then you know that it's time to support real change in Haiti. The time for change in Haiti is now. Do your part to make the change. Do not allow the abuse in Haiti to continue. Enough is enough. Haiti has suffered long enough. Start by releasing Yvon Neptune from the witch hunt. They've had more than enough time to dig up the evidence. Stop the political repression in Haiti. It's blatant. It's wrong. And it's time to end is now.

89 BuffWhitman-BradleyThe effort to prevent human rights observers from entering the country and gathering information seems a clear admission that human rights abuses are occurring.
