A terrible day when all of Saluda is in the shadow and an outsider millionaire's 6 story building.

Building on the Kenny's site as proposed is a dreadful idea. Please listen to the neighbors who oppose this. And please, tell me this wasn't a "done deal" back in December of 2006. I'd hate to think this is true.

This structure will greatly impact the 5 Points Area in a very negative way. 5 Points is a very unique part of Columbia. In fact, I think it is the best that Columbia has to offer, with its village appeal. This structure does not belong!!
A sketch of the mass from the street level looking from Harpers toward Yesterdays might be helpful as well. Thanks for doing this.

I find this proposal appalling, given the financial circumstances of the city. Why should the few prosper at the expense of the many? Who is really prospering?

I manage a buisness in 5 points THE SALOON 812 Harden street
I think it is way out of character for 5 points and would rather see the Clausens alternative since it is already high up on a hill. I also seems extremely costly.
Cameron is right - do NOT build this monstrosity! Everyone hates parking garages anyway - they aren't safe and no one wants to park in them.
You have got to be kidding! All the recent money, work and time lost to clean up Five Points and then they build an expensive monolith?
My son and I moved to Columbia last year, and I specifically decided to move into the Five Points area. We love the village feel of the entire neighborhood, including the Five Points shopping area. I love that the traffic is pedestrian friendly, and that the area is on a human scale. I have NEVER – not even once – been unable to find a parking spot when I’ve come to Five Points. When we have events like “Five after Five” and other celebrations, I feel proud to be part of Five Points, and am happy to see people of all ages enjoying the area. There are families with little babies, children running around, teenagers, college students, parents, and grandparents, and it has a very close-knit neighborhood feeling to it. When I speak to people who come through town (I also work in Five Points) they often mention that they love Five Points and make a point to come wander the area whenever they come to town. They always mention how nice it is to walk around, and how it really feels like a European village. This is part of the charm and draw of Five Points. The way to preserve and continue to develop this is NOT to build a six-story building/parking garage in the middle of our neighborhood and shopping district. Everything else in our area is on a human scale, and not on a “downtown” scale. The rest of my family moved to the Dutch Fork area, but we moved into Columbia. We love all that it has to offer, and it is absolutely the most beautiful city that I have ever lived in. I love that we are close to downtown and can visit it when we want to, but I would never want to live there with my eight-year-old, and I absolutely hate the thought of a tall, “downtown” type of building being put smack in the middle of Five Points. If it is determined that we do need a parking garage, we need to explore other options. We need to not disrupt the integrity of Five Points. Why is there such a hurry to make this decision? Why can we not get a better consensus and come up with alternative plans? There is no reason. Please take the time to slow down and find the best solution for Five Points and Columbia.

If they would just spend this much on public transport the parking would not be so "necessary". Who is going to shoo the poor old vagrants out of there anyway?
There are 2 banks ALREADY. There is a drugstore ALREADY. (Who needs a Walgreen' s at five points anyway?) So why build parking for "competition" that is not needed?
This would ruin the character of Columbia's first suburb. Surely something can be built to fit in with the current skyline of Five Points that's not SIX stories.

I have never had difficulty finding parking in Five Points except for special events & that is expected no matter where a special event is held. People will continue to find parking outside of the garage even if it is built--that is the nature of people
