This is a violation of our community's character and City Council should be ashamed of it's decision to push this through over the interests of the City's residents.
This is an outrageous example of a project being given the fast-track treatment.
This project has been flawed from the beginning process. Parking can be a good thing, but not the way this is conceived. The financial aspect is very strange and public imput should have been considered from the beginning.

A structure of this size and nature will ruin Five Points as we know it today.
It appears to me that this project is being pushed through City Council without the input of surrounding neighbors and merchants.
The drive thru bank and drug store will do nothing for the village atmosphere, the traffic pattern is dangerous and a nightmare.
Seems like in this time of the city's budget challenges, our City Council members would want to make sure that $5.8M is the right amount to spend for 200 spaces. Seems excessive and will end up being yet another total fiasco if this goes through.

The only independent external study of parking in Columbia (2002 Columbia Parking Master Plan)states that a parking structure is not justified in Five Points. The study recommends other solutions to address the parking needs in Five Points which the City has not adequately explored.

I may will have approved of this development IF I had both sides of the story well presented. As it stands now, the only side that seems convincing is that which opposes this initiative. Newspaper articles, City Council web site documents, and city council meeting discussions reveal very little. In this slowed economy, condos will not sell, retail space will not fill, a parking lot with greenway spaces will fill the need that is most commonly expressed by those in favor of this and will cost pennies to put in by comparison. A parking lot is easily converted when the economy improves and when a better plan is developed.
The City has not looked at all options for increasing 5 Pts parking. All options MUST be examined before spending $6M for only 201 spaces! City Staff has said that parking garages of less than 250 spaces are not cost justified.

the state just reported that the city does not have sufficient funding to equip the police department. we need to spend city dollars on public safety not parking

I am opposed to this project because of the lack of due diligence on the part of the council and the commitment of public funds to subsidize a venture that should be evaluated on its financial merits without the city's dollars. I do support locating a building a parking garage for Five Points on the Claussen site as it meets the business area needs.

This is yet another reason why Columbia is not the city it could or should be. The city administration (the mayor's office) thinks this is a small town it controls, not a city that should be thinking about and listening to its citizens.
A building of that size will not complement the area. I am glad this project has been stopped and I hope it will not move forward as planned for such a large building.
I believe this is Not in the best interest of 5-Points. It is over the top - We can do better than this for 5-Points!
The scale of the proposed building is incongruous for the area.

I am totally against my public tax money being used for this parking garage.

Preserve, let people walk in. The property is too valuable to Columbia to make such an area....a parking lot. Let the people enjoy having their money taken....and not by parking.

I am very much opposed to this entire project!
TOO TALL, OVER POWERING THE WHOLE PLACE AND LIFE OF EVERYBODY. DESTROYING THE SPIRIT AND FLAIR OF 5-POINT VILLAGE. ALSO, CHECK WITH THE COLUMBIA POLICE DEPT FOR ACCIDENT REPORTS WHICH OCCUR ROUTINELY (AND MORE THAN ONE AMBULANCE ARE CALLED MOST OF THE TIME) AT THE INTERSECTION OF BLOSSOM AND SALUDA, WITH TRAFIC IN AND OUT 5-POINTS.
