The petition
Sign the petition asking City Council to vote "no" on a contract to build 2 floors of public metered parking in a private developer’s building at the former Kenny's Auto site in Five Points. The final vote by the City on this project will be May 21.
If Council votes yes, then $5.8 Million (and, according to the contract, possibly exponentially more) of public funds will be used for 200 parking spaces, adding two floors to the building and creating a massive 6-story high rise. The 200 metered spaces will cost the City $29,000 per parking space. This out-of-scale six story building will have an enormous visual impact on the village character.
Join hundreds of residents, Five Points merchants and 7 surrounding Neighborhood Associations who believe that this project as proposed is wrong for Five Points.
Sign the petition and then forward it to your network of friends and supporters of smart growth for Columbia, fiscal responsibility, and open process.
