We the undersigned members of Crusaders A.C. are concerned at the prospect of losing Merrion Cricket Club as our winter training facility.
Our understanding is that the Merrion C.C. committee has proposed a significant increase in rent for the ‘06/’07 season. This is an unfortunate development as we have always considered ourselves dutiful and unproblematic tenants.
We wish to thank the Crusaders committee most sincerely for its negotiations with Merrion to date and hereby pledge our support for any assistance we might give with further talks.
We believe Merrion to be essential for the following reasons :-
• 400m grass surface circuit
• Exclusive use of the facility on training nights
• Ample secure car parking
• Central easy-access location
• Safe floodlit facility
We consider ourselves fortunate to have full access to Irishtown stadium, and our participation in both the Time Trials on the track and Circuits in the gymnasium during the winter season is testimony to this. Nevertheless we regard Merrion as our base from October to March and have seen record numbers at training during this time period.
We believe that the loss of Merrion would result in a loss of existing members and a decline in new memberships. We recognise that the rise in rent proposed by Merrion C.C. is substantial, but we suggest that the increase could be covered by some or all of the following initiatives :-
• Increase in subs (Winter premium for Merrion users)
• Additional Fundraising activity (Table Quiz, Race Night etc.)
• AAI Funding (Fit4Life Autumn/Winter league)
• Annual Club Race (similar to Raheny 5, Jingle Bells, Clonliffe 2)
There is no shortage of club members willing and able to volunteer for the cause and to get involved in fundraising efforts for the club.
Once again, we want to express our gratitude to the Crusaders committee members and thank them for all their efforts so far on our behalf. |
