The petition
The Intensive ESL program in Carleton University has been existed for 23 years. Unlike the ESL programs in any other colleges or universities, it has the most flexible and dynamic learning materials and environment, which always adapt to the needs of every student.
What's more important is that for most of us, who came from all over the world and were total strangers to this land, this program is our first friend in Canada. And It is a faithful friend for it has the best teachers and support staff, who are alway enthusiastic, patient, and keen to help, and who are always there for us.
From timid to confident, we grew our English ability in ESL not only through wonderful classes, but also through all kinds of activities, ranging from music club, sports club, conversation club, potluck dinner, dance party, bowling, yoga, BBQ party, tobogganing, to various trips, all of which are carefully organized by the devoting teachers & staff.
We are truly blessed to have chosen this program and to have had the chance to grow up with it.
However, we were so shocked to learn that this amazing program will come to an end soon in August, 2008 - all a sudden. This is undoubtedly a tremendous loss for us and for all the international students who are planning to come to Canada and who really need a good English learning program. We cannot imagine learning English without a creative and dynamic environment as that provided by this program.
Therefore, through this petition and with wholehearted respect and hope, we, the undersigned current and former students of Carleton University Intensive ESL program, urge the administration of Carleton University to take back the closing-down decision or to restore the program again soon in the future.
