Desiree WaltersI agree with this law! People continue to abuse the system because they know that there are not stiff enough penalties and fines. I believe if you take a life you should be imprisioned for the rest of yours or something in that order. People would pay more attention if the consequences were more severe. Please let's help get something done!

AnonymousNot only should it be in the state of MA but in every state. I've lost family members to drunk driving, and it just ruines us. Years have past, and there is still a empty part in our hearts. Be smart. Don't drink and drive.

JenniferThis is a tragic way to end two beautiful lives. It makes me sick that people can kill innocent people and walk away like nothing happened. I've seen the pictures of Katie and James, they are heartbreaking. Good Luck with this... Jennifer from California

Sherri ShaddingerI think everyone knows of someone who's been killed if not hurt by a drunk driver. What does that say???????People are getting away with it and they know it!!!!!!
Andrew ZebrunDrunk driving is murder!
charlotte whiteso many innocent people die every day because of careless people. pass the law something needs to be done.
Celina ReyesI agree that the penalties for drunk drivers need to be alot stiffer. Making the free choice of driving while under the influence thus having no regard for self or others constitutes prison time- suspension of lics, classes, fines is not going to cut it!

Brandy JohnsonMy sister was killed by a drunk driver, I also agree that we need tougher laws. When someone chooses to drink and drive, it's like waving a loaded gun around. We know the consquences, and they need to pay a harsher punishment.

lisa floresI have my one year old son and to loose him any day of my life would be devastating espesially if it wasn't due to natural cause, then to see that nothing gets done with justice would hurt much more. The law needs to see that those people who kill when intoxicated, are not innocent in what they did, but that they have killed an innocent one.

SpikESo I was wondering. What is worse. A person drink driving and accidently killing another person, (Drink drivers make up about 25% of the total road deaths per year) or someone who is speeding not under the influence and kills another person. Now someone speeding would also get a chance to say that the road was wide, there was no traffic, if i loose my licence it will impare my ability to get work ect all these types of things. But someone under the influence (and again i ask if this is worse) gets no chance to redeem themselves for any reason at all. They basically don't get a fair trial and seem to be persuade as the major threat on the road and they are always in the wrong and they are always complete bastards. I just though i would mention this not to say drink driving is not wrong or anythign of that type but just to point out a little something that has been spread out through advertisements and the media that is not fair
SpikEOk so I know this is a 2nd technically 3rd post. But i have found something i would really consider that you read.... This guy was convicted for DUI 2 years ago but the problem persist. "http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080706042754AAKFbkd" What does socieity want for convicted drunk drivers? A.) They are punished and pay thousands of dollars of fines. They are stigmatiszed and ostracized by society for the rest of their lives. They are punished and wear a "scarlett-letter" and are never able to obtain a decent job. They are separated from everyone else in society and are never able to obtain a decent life. Because of this circumstances, people will be deterred to never drink and drive. or B) They are punished and pay thousands of dollars and fines. They are forced to attend AA and other rehab programs to treat their alcohol addiction. However, after seven years or so, they are no longer ostrascized by society if they have not re-offended. They are encouraged to come back into society and seek education. After they have proved themselves by years of punishment, remorse, and good deeds they go can go onto decent jobs. I was convicted of DUI two years ago. I am wondered what society wants out of me. I have been completely sober since my arrest. I volunteer three days 1 week ago (Tiebreaker) Additional Details 1 week ago a week and I get high grades in college. I hope to go onto graduate school and become a social worker. I am incredibly remorseful about what I did. I still feel deep guilt and shame and ruminate about that night every day..... Do you want me to be kept separate from society for the rest of my life or eventually can I be seen as a decent citizen again?

AnonymousWe also need tougher enforcement. My ex-wife went hrough a alcoholic period and she came to pick up my daughter after drinking. Calling the police on her did not help because they refused to test her.
