| 8 | Jeff Dearman | Community Television is an important way of communicating issues and community events to the public. It is valuable for the political process of local communities, and community television stations offer a way to teach kids and adults television production without having to pay for expensive college courses. It is a fun enriching experience and a great feeing to see your programs onthe air.I got my start at community television and many producers, film producers, directors, and television news people got their start at community television. Community televison is a vauable tool for any community and a fun way to be a part of your communit.y I strongly support community television and I think we deserve funding to stay on the air. |
| 9 | Wendy Blom | These bills, written by and for one company, Verizon, are bad for consumers and local governments. The current cable franchise regulations work well, allow for fair competition and local oversight, and should not be changed. |
| 10 | Nicole Belanger | Giving up local control of cable franchising to the state doesn't seem desirable. One can imagine that local needs and local concerns might be lost if all cable franchises are dealt with at the state level. Verizon will still make a large profit margin whether the franchise is determined at the municipal or state level.
Last week the Worcester City Council addressed the issue of Statewide Cable Franchising. In a resolution all councilors voted 'That the Worcester City Council does hereby urge the Massachusetts Legislature, the the strongest possible manner, to oppose any effort to eliminate the municipal consent process for competitive providers of cable television service... ' read the whole resolution here http://tinyurl.com/2a9m9w
Competition is great, yes, but not at the expense of local interest and control. |
| 11 | Mari Gottdiener | Local control of cable is an essential part of corporate-free communication in this country, a quickly diminishing resource. |

| 16 | Allan Eyden | Needs and priorities vary from one community to another. Local control is the only way to address this. |

| 33 | Christina Gleason | We need to protect local rule. Each situation is different. |
| 34 | Cheryl Tully Stoll | As the Treasurer of a Public Access Corporation I find it inequitable that one company should have the advantage of an expedited license process over others. They already have a tremendous advantage with an installed telephone service base.
To expect local communities who negotiate one or two licenses every ten years to be able to fairly negotiate with an entity that given their way would like to do over 100 licenses in just Massachusetts in a twelve month period does a tremendous disservice to the consumers in the Commonwealth and is an egregious violation of local control options. |

| 42 | Anonymous | This is too important to let slip through the cracks. At this time in our nation's history, anything that inhibits more of our freedom of speech and the chance for citizens to gather, keep in touch and share thoughts is is counter to the very foundation of this country's reason for being!!! We must have the right to use our airwaves!!! The corporations have already taken control of almost all aspects of the tele-communication byways... due to high paid lobbyists that pressure all of you... don't buckle on this one, please!!!!
Please, vote against the Verizon bill!!
Thank you. |
| 43 | charles B. Walsh | Please keep the local control as is.
Verizon is trying to use unfair methods ,after the fact to get into the market and control the future od pegs. |

| 46 | Barbara D. King | Please vote against this bill. Local programming funded by cable is needed by town and enjoyed by many in our town |
| 47 | John Lavin | With being an elected offical in the Town of Norfolk the local cable TV has been invaluable as a form of communication between the Town residents and the current actions of the local government. If this was taken away from local Towns I would see it as another door closed in the struggle to keep residents informed about THIER Town.
Please do not let big business money influence your decision in doing the right for the Towns people.
Thanks for your help in keeping communication lines open to the people.
