KEEP NANCY GIRIS ON THE BOARD OF EDUCATION IN PLAINEDGE!
Nancy Giris is a highly educated, intelligent person, a lifetime resident of Plainedge and a member of the Plainedge Board of Education. Her three children attend our schools. She and her family have been the victims of personal attacks by a minority of residents who blame her for the Picken/Packard swap deal being removed from the bargaining table by the Town of Oyster Bay.
Nancy's voicing her opinion on this matter as a citizen of Plainedge is her absolute right, despite the fact that she is a BOE member. She stands up for what is right and stands by her convictions...and that is to do her part as a BOE member to ensure our kids get the best out of our schools. The personal attacks on Nancy in various blogs and emails are childish and nothing more than bullying by some Plainedge parents who want to see our ball fields improved. Our schools have a "zero tolerance" policy for bullying and these parents need to learn from that and stop this insanity now! WHAT ARE THEY TEACHING THEIR CHILDREN? To blame one individual as the cause for the TOB walking away from this deal is utterly absurd. This was a BUSINESS deal where one side was not committed to move it forward.
There are many residents who DID NOT WANT THE PICKEN/PACKARD SWAP TO HAPPEN! This would be a terrible mistake for Plainedge! Our fields are just fine for the kids! The Picken/Packard swap is not only a bad deal financially for Plainedge, but the TOB would have the right to open a senior center, a drug rehab, or any other services on that land? There's no guarantee what kind of services the TOB will make available at the Packard site. Do we want to take that chance? Nancy Giris had very valid concerns and stepped up to voice them. Good for her!
We need to send a clear message to those who are launching personal attacks on her and her family that this behavior is not acceptable, nor will it be tolerated by the residents of Plainedge. If you agree and want Nancy to maintain her seat on the Plainedge BOE to continue her efforts to do the best for our children, please sign this petition before Friday, February 1st, at which time it will be sent to the Plainedge Superintendent of Schools and BOE.
