The petition

March 24, 2008

To: Ms. Jeanie Moore, Vice President of Continuing Education
Rowan-Cabarrus Community College

We, the undersigned, wish to honor two City of Salisbury Firefighters who lost their lives in the line of duty. We ask that Building 700 of the Rowan-Cabarrus Community College North Campus, be renamed as the

Isler-Monroe Fire/Rescue/EMS Training Center

On the morning of March 7th, 2008, Salisbury Firefighters Victor Isler and Justin Monroe passed away from injuries suffered while on a hose line battling a multi-alarm fire at Salisbury Millwork, a supplier of cabinetry and wood trim. No one that day could have imagined what was to come, the scale of the emergency, or the enormity of the danger. At least three other firefighters were injured, though none seriously, as they tried to rescue the pair.

We are affirming with our signatures that we believe the renaming of Building 700 would be a fitting tribute and means of honoring Victor Isler and Justin Monroe in that they gave their lives in the service to the citizens of Salisbury. Renaming this building will continue the healing process and help us remember Victor and Justin as what they truly were: Firefighters, Brothers, Heros. This action would honor their memory, dedication, sacrifice and show that Rowan-Cabarrus Community College will never forget those who were lost on that terrible day.

Victor Isler, a Top-Gun graduate from this training program and Justin Monroe, along with their families, would challenge this school and its training professionals to insure that the firefighters, rescue technicians, and emergency medical service providers who graduate are totally prepared, that they have learned to do their job in a safe fashion, in order that the citizens of North Carolina receive the best possible protection. Seeing that Building 100 is dedicated to C. Merrill Hamilton and 200 is known as the Richard L. Brownell Building, it's only fitting that Building 700 be renamed the Isler-Monroe Fire/Rescue/EMS Training Center; and that they be immortalized forever by a facility which serves its community, just as Victor and Justin were so proud to do.
