Before the May 1 celebrations in Iran, a campaign to raise the minimum wage have been going on for several months. The Iranian Islamic government has set minimum wage at a level equivalent to 263 Euro, which represents one quarter of the state's so-called poverty line. To avoid the labourers and NGO:s mobilizing May 1 celebrations conducted hearings and hearings of labourers and employees across Iran took place. Despite the prevailing atmosphere of fear and terror, were nine different trade unions and NGO movements, as well as women and students for the first time with a single invitation to the celebration of May 1 in Laleh Park (the largest park in Tehran). A few hours earlier before the celebrations a several thousand man-strong security force and militia group had been placed around the park. When the participants began to gather they were attacked in a very brutal way by the security police forces. The security forces attacked with batons and pepperspray they even attacked small children and pensioners. Many spectators were seriously injured, about 200 people were arrested - labourers, women and students . In the city of Sanandaj (Kurdistan Province) more than twelve people were beaten and arrested. Abuse and arrests took place in other cities throughout Iran for example in Kerman Shah, Saqez, Baneh(which all belong to the Kurdistan Province). The arrested persons are sitting since May 1 in various prisons they are not allowed to receive visits, to contact lawyers or relatives and the likelihood that some of them will be sentenced to pay very high sums for conditionally release (These sums can be equal up to 14 years' salary for a labourer in Iran). None of these prisoners can afford these amounts. All of those arrested have refused to pay. They demand their immediate and unconditional release! Relatives who have been protesting against arrests of their relatives outside various prisons have been threatened with arrest by the security police. We the undersigned urge: unions, parties and human rights organizations to its protest against the brutal regime in Iran, and show signs of solidarity with the working class and all employees. Support political prisoners and labourers in Iran
